Utah's Present History: July 2012
http://utahspresenthistory.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 22, 2012. It has been a long travel through Provo. If you haven't noticed, most of the city has been covered except for one gaping hole: Center Street. Provo's Center Street may be the most historical area in Utah County, and since it is also the most overwhelming, I have avoided it untill now. One of the most prominent buildings on Center is the Utah County Courthouse. The history of this building is best reported by Utah County Online. Courtesy of the Provo City Library. In 1870, Provo Cit...

The Deseret News reported, "The first office building for LDS church leaders in Salt Lake was built in 1848 by Daniel H. Wells, superintendent of public works. It measured 18 feet by 12 feet and had a slanting roof covered with boards and dirt. Its exact location is unknown, but it was the church headquarters for two years. And the Gardo House. salt lake architecture: March 2010
http://saltlakearchitecture.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Last October while exploring Emigration Canyon, I randomly came upon this home and was blown away by its stark simplicity and beauty. I took some pictures and attempted unsuccessfully to discover online who had designed it. Several months later, the home, which had just recently been completed, won a 2009 Merit Award from the AIA Utah. The architect is Sparano Mooney Architecture. Located here in Salt Lake City. From the description portion. Of the website,. Map of all buildings.

Low Door In The Wall. Nearby, a muscular, Yul Brynner-like body is etched into a huge boulder which is tipped on its short end. The form holds a long sword. An uncarved rock plunked on top appears to represent a head. Nearby, a giant flagstone stage presents a stocky figure of a man dressed in a stone jacket. His trousers are carved brick. Homas B. Child (1888-1963), creator of Gilgal, was a complex man. He was, indeed, a Mormon bishop for 19 years. He was a retired masonry contractor who wan...The cruci...

Low Door In The Wall. Vaughn Reid is having entirely too much fun off Highway 10, near Clawson, in Central Utah. Reid is a 72-year-old retired steel worker, machinist, and blacksmith who decided to do something with his collection of junk left behind by previous generations. He and his buddy, Rich Fairbanks, combine metal, wood, and mystery scraps into large-scale pieces for their own entertainment — and that of any passersby. The stark landscape provides a perfect foil for their surprises.

Low Door In The Wall. Murals, Icons, and Alleys. November 10, 2012. Trent Call has been leaving his mark on buildings for the past few years in Salt Lake City. Tracking these murals down took me down a rabbit hole. I ended up behind buildings, through alleyways and courtyards, and past some architectural gems. I emerged in neighborhoods of Salt Lake City I hadn’t seen before, […]. Continue Reading →. Spring City Heritage Day. April 9, 2012. Continue Reading →. January 4, 2012. Continue Reading →. Low Door In The Wall. Herman Bruschke’s Beech. May 18, 2010. In the Jewish section of the City Cemetery at Fourth Avenue and R Street stands the largest European beech tree in Utah. From the street it may not appear extraordinary, yet it is at least 60 feet tall and is so wide that two adults cannot wrap their arms around its massive trunk. The leaves, […]. Continue Reading →.
