Erin in Ghana: A Day in My Life
http://erin-in-ghana.blogspot.com/2008/06/day-in-my-life.html
Thoughts from across the pond. Tuesday, June 17, 2008. A Day in My Life. I have started to settle into a routine here in Jirapa. To give you an idea of what my life is like, here is a taste of a regular day for me. 6:00am - wake up, go to the washroom, do my Pilates exercises. I bought a small prayer mat at a local store and I have enough space on my bedroom floor that I can do Pilates inside. I find this is a great way to start the morning - calming and energizing to prepare me for the day ahead. 7:50am...

Sylvie in Malawi: Independence Day
http://sylvieinmalawi.blogspot.com/2008/07/independence-day.html
Monday, July 21, 2008. July 6th, 2008: Malawi turned 44 years old! The president had the major celebrations in Mzuzu, the main city of the Northern Region, to symbolize his efforts to develop the North. Since Mzuzu is close to me, I decided to attempt attending the ceremonies, with a couple of other EWB JFs as well. Here is the story of that day, with some personal commentary at the end. Police were shooting criminals in reenactments of how to call emergency numbers, and for the army, stuff just started ...

Going from Canada to Ghana: August 2007
http://canada2ghana.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Going from Canada to Ghana. Wednesday, August 29, 2007. On my second day at work, I showed up, was ushered onto the back of a motorbike and promptly sent off into the bush. Piloting the motorbike was Janet, a wonderfully kindhearted mother and extension agent/WIAD (Women In Agricultural Development) officer, and taking the lead in another motorbike was Zack, the district's extension officer. I was standing under a tree full of ripe mangoes! Was it that food from the morning? Was it the mango I ate? By th...

Going from Canada to Ghana: Savanishing

Going from Canada to Ghana. Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Their huge forms lumber in the dust, pacing idly. The ground murmurs and softly trembles beneath their incredible mass. Monoliths, they dominate the landscape. Suddenly excited and impatient, one pulls forward from the herd and bellows a shrill blast. Ears ringing, the ground seems to whimper in response. Growling like thunder, the bus begins to lumber through the station. The people really seem to rely on the seasonal rains. This is a major probl...

Erin in Ghana: Early Return
http://erin-in-ghana.blogspot.com/2008/07/early-return.html
Thoughts from across the pond. Friday, July 25, 2008. I still have a lot of reflecting to do on my time in Ghana, figuring out what I learned, how I changed and how it will affect my actions in the future. I'm not yet ready to answer questions like "so how was it? Or "what did you learn? Though I don't think I'll ever be able to answer those ones). I have to sort my photos, write down my stories and think as much about what I didn't. Http:/ www.hollisramblings.blogspot.com. August 1, 2008 at 9:20 AM.

Sylvie in Malawi: Malilo
http://sylvieinmalawi.blogspot.com/2008/08/malilo.html
Tuesday, August 5, 2008. It was the first time for many who had attended that funeral to hear the word of Bahai. The second funeral I attended was for my counterpart’s wife’s grandfather, who died at the age of 90. He was an important man, and so many people had come to pay their respects. He also had an open casket, and so that was the first time I’d seen a dead man! But they always come together at the funerals…and life continues. Have funerals always had people laughing? Well, anyhow, life continues&#...
