River Teme Trek: May 2009
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 25 May 2009. On Friday 22nd May, Peter Stretton. Who is a churchwarden of Ashford Carbonell) and I set off to practise what will be the second leg of my walk along the River Teme. Not long after we left Downton we were able to leave the road and take a footpath which led us across a field and down to the river. Soon we emerged at the delightful Bringewood Forge Bridge. In the distance up river. Saying goodbye to Peter, I arrived home at 3.45pm, feeling a little tired but exhilarated at comple...

River Teme Trek: July 2009
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, 11 July 2009. So the last day arrived - and as I woke in Alfrick the sun was breaking through the clouds and the forecast for the rest of the day was good. I was eager to get going and complete the rest of this epic journey. After a delicious breakfast of boiled eggs and toast, I was taken the short distance to my starting point back in Knightwick. Over a few more stiles and I was onto a lane for a short while before turning left onto a bridleway. From Brockamin it was only a short walk to Leig...

River Teme Trek: Day Three!
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009/07/day-three.html
Wednesday, 8 July 2009. At least two reasons to be cheerful today - first, today is the shortest walk of the week, and second, when I got up this morning, it was not raining for once. So we set off at about 11 am and after a brisk walk with the sun shining down on us (what a relief! A brief stroll through a couple of fields and we crossed the footbridge to Little Hereford Church,. We continued along the lane for a short while, then walked through the Frank P. Matthews nursery before proceeding throug...

River Teme Trek: Day Four!
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009/07/day-four.html
Thursday, 9 July 2009. More joy this morning as I woke in Tenbury to see the sun shining for the second day in a row! After breakfast with Claire I went to the church for morning prayer at 8.30am before walking down to the swimming pool to meet Tim, who was walking with me again today, together with Boris, one of his dogs, and Rigby, his daughter's dog. They were dropped off by the ever faithful Peter Stretton! We got up to the church at about 11.45, and soon after Max Jourdier, the former churc. Arrivin...

River Teme Trek: Practice No.3 and other news
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009/06/practice-no3-and-other-news.html
Sunday, 7 June 2009. Practice No.3 and other news. Quite a few developments to report - though finding the time to actually put it all on the blog is proving a challenge! A link to their website also appears on the left. There were quite a few churches to look at on this leg! Via a farmyard - not the correct route, but the farmer didn't seem to mind. Then we had the joy of moving on to the next OS map before we saw Stanford-on-Teme church appear over the crest of a hill (see left and map. From here, a we...

River Teme Trek: Last two practices!
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009/06/last-two-practices.html
Monday, 29 June 2009. The last two practices before the great trek begins took place on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 June, but as ever the busy-ness of life has prevented me from writing them up until now! We walked a little of the Worcestershire Way. Emerging from the farm in a little hamlet called Lulsley. We then were on the road for a while before turning off onto a bridleway. This was a very clear path (see left), which took us twice over a dismantled railway and through some truly beautiful countryside.

River Teme Trek: Day Two!
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009/07/day-two.html
Tuesday, 7 July 2009. Shortly before we arrived at Bromfield, the rain stopped and the sun came out - hence the photograph of me, Tim, the dogs and Madelyn Carlyon, the churchwarden (right) shows us bathed in sunlight. At Bromfield we were greeted again by Peter Stretton, who brought Tim's wife Sue to join us for the Bromfield-to-Ludlow section. We went in to Bromfield Church and admired its richly decorated chancel ceiling (see left). So there we are. Two days down, three to go. I still feel fin...Click...

River Teme Trek: Day One!
http://rivertemetrek.blogspot.com/2009/07/day-one.html
Monday, 6 July 2009. So the day has finally arrived - the first day of the great trek along the River Teme! The day began rather inauspiciously when I awoke this morning, pulled back the curtains and saw the rain falling. The waterproof coat was removed from the bag and put ready to wear. At 7 am the trusty Peter Stretton came and picked me up and drove me to the starting point for the walk - not quite the source, but as near as I could get, about four miles north west of Beguildy. I have never been so p...
