Canoe Corner: August 2014
http://canoecorner.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
A Prince Edward Island Country Home and Garden. Cats on the Corner. Friday, August 29, 2014. I was wandering around the flower garden the other day. Plotting my next move. I've been working hard, one section at a time. Clearing weeds, amending the soil, adding new plants and finally mulching. Then I move on to the next section. A few feet at a time I'm finishing this beast of a garden. So there I found myself, having finished another section and contemplating what next. That's when I spotted it. Each spr...

Canoe Corner: November 2014
http://canoecorner.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
A Prince Edward Island Country Home and Garden. Cats on the Corner. Saturday, November 29, 2014. Many of you are probably aware of our cats here on the corner. I have loved cats for years and when we moved to PEI we brought Gino with us, shipping him on a plane across the country. He's been part of our family for ten years and there was no way he was getting left behind. Five years on he has completely won over our hearts. Going from feral barn cat to cuddly lap cat. These brothers have kept us entertain...

Canoe Corner: June 2014

A Prince Edward Island Country Home and Garden. Cats on the Corner. Monday, June 30, 2014. Veggie Garden Triumphs and Tragedies. This was the case recently when someone emailed me from New Hampshire. They were looking for a photo of a dead cucumber for their newsletter. The newsletter article was discussing how cucumber seedlings can wilt and die quickly due to temperature fluctuations. Apparently my photo was the only one to be found on the internet. Chard was pretty but neither of us wanted to eat it.

Canoe Corner: March 2014
http://canoecorner.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
A Prince Edward Island Country Home and Garden. Cats on the Corner. Saturday, March 15, 2014. The Longest Winter Ever. I wouldn't be surprised if you thought I had simply given up and run away. I have been seriously thinking about that. Packing up my bags and heading somewhere tropical where there is no work, no school and no snow. Today is a good day though. The temperature has risen from -12 degree celsius overnight to a balmy 4 degrees. There's a compost bin at the end of this path. Aiken House and Ga...

Canoe Corner: February 2015
http://canoecorner.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
A Prince Edward Island Country Home and Garden. Cats on the Corner. Friday, February 27, 2015. It was a slow start to winter this year. We had reasonably warm temperatures and little to no snow for all of December and January. February changed all that. A lovely day to go to the beach. A thick blanket of snow fell down and covered the ground. Enough to get out and snowshoe but still quite reasonable. The thing was, once it started, it didn't want to stop. Oh yes, that roof poking out of the snow. Good ki...

Canoe Corner: January 2015
http://canoecorner.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
A Prince Edward Island Country Home and Garden. Cats on the Corner. Wednesday, January 28, 2015. A few years ago someone gave me mustard seed. I don't remember who was responsible for the gift. What I do remember was that I wasn't sure I wanted mustard seed. I had never eaten mustard as a green and didn't know if I would like it. But I can't resist a seed and so it was planted one spring with low expectations. But does it taste good? Bright red and green leaves with yellow flowers. Pretty stylish pla...

Canoe Corner: A Long Cold Spring
http://canoecorner.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-long-cold-spring.html
A Prince Edward Island Country Home and Garden. Cats on the Corner. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. A Long Cold Spring. I was beginning to think Spring would never come. The cold weather clung to us with an icy grip and refused to let go. In mid-April we thought it was starting to retreat and the snow began to melt creating icy rivers of gushing water. A river of melting snow behind our house. Around the garage I cleaned out the flower beds, removing some old plants and making space for new. Post clean up things ...
