https://embryogenesisexplained.org/2016/12/30/lil-girl-released-to-the-sea
Lil Girl Released to the Sea. Yesterday we attended the release of a loggerhead sea turtle named Lil Girl. Lil Girl had been a resident of Gulf Specimen Marine Lab. Lil Girl was originally raised in this facility. After she flunked the TED test she got sent to Gulf Specimen Marine Lab to be used as a teaching animal until she reached adult size. As a young adult capable of breeding, and therefore extremely valuable to the wild loggerhead population, Lil Girl was deemed ready to go this December. There wa...

Musings on writing, travel, animals, and the minutia of life. Well, I’m back home now. Every time I go to Europe, I feel like I belong, and it’s always jarring to come back. There’s so much to say about the trip, so I’m going to split this up over a few posts. But for now…. April 4, 2016. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Auschwitz: The Art of Remembering – Word Adventures
https://wordadventures.wordpress.com/2016/05/11/auschwitz-the-art-of-remembering
Musings on writing, travel, animals, and the minutia of life. Auschwitz: The Art of Remembering. I’ve been thinking about this post for a long time, ever since I got back from Poland a month ago. How do you write about Auschwitz? How do you write about a place imbued with so much infamy, pain, and unreality? My visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was not my first trip to tragic sites of WWII. But Auschwitz is different. Remembering is an art. We want to believe we remember, and that in rem...

Indian Food in Poland & Other Stories – Word Adventures

Musings on writing, travel, animals, and the minutia of life. Indian Food in Poland and Other Stories. There are some things in life you just don’t do. Walk around in golf ball-sized hail. Eat Indian food in Poland. Of course, some people still do stupid things, and mine did not seem stupid at the time. The Indian restaurant had been a favorite of my friends’, and we went on Easter, when very little was open. Alas, it was a mistake. The lassi was my downfall. Our spoils from the market. Musings on writing, travel, animals, and the minutia of life. A Quiet Place in a Loud World. I’m a heavy sleeper. When I moved to Boston in 2011, I came from the little antiquing town of Snohomish, Washington, where everything moved more slowly, and the pressure of city life was far away. Suddenly, sirens, musical instruments, talking, laughing, and car horns surrounded me daily, but the noise didn’t really bother me. I could sleep through it; it was exciting. August 8, 2016. September 5, 2016. On On Sno...

Musings on writing, travel, animals, and the minutia of life. On Snobbery & Literature. Someone who tends to criticize, reject, or ignore people who come from a lower social class, have less education, etc. (Merriam-Webster). Snobbery is a fact of culture, and we’re all guilty of it in one way or another. While some people tend to be snobby in general, there are also many specific ways snobbery can reveal itself, even if we don’t think about these actions as directly snobby. But it’s a classic! Being sno...

Musings on writing, travel, animals, and the minutia of life. The Mountain is Out. Unless you’re familiar with the Seattle area, then the phrase “the mountain is out” probably doesn’t mean much to you. Isn’t a mountain always out? The persistent drizzle and cool overcast skies often hide the majesty of Mount Rainier. But on a clear day, when “the mountain is out,” it looks like this:. June 23, 2016. June 23, 2016. Backpacking, and Saying No to Normal. Yesterday, when we got in the car, I was stinky and e...
