Defiantly Dutch: January 2015
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 31, 2015. The Dutchmen, one-time overnight sensations, need to become hip today. So this is what I originally wrote as the first graph of this blog entry last Sunday, and would have appeared as the first graph of this blog if I’d managed to post it Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday:. Good thing I didn’t post it. Because Wednesday night’s 100-78 loss to William and Mary was infinitely suckier than the suckiest bunch of sucks that have ever sucked. Wrong again. I could go on, and post ever...

Defiantly Dutch: We don’t sleep, we dream
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2015/03/we-dont-sleep-we-dream.html
Sunday, March 8, 2015. We don’t sleep, we dream. Well, it’s too late to turn back now. It was one thing to get in the car Friday afternoon and drive roughly 227 miles over nearly five interminable hours, all the while finding promising signs on the radio that made us imagine what it’d be like to have to figure out a way to get back to Baltimore if the Flying Dutchmen made it to Monday night. Have I mentioned we have to go back Sunday night? I’ll save that story. It’s a good one). On both ends of the cour...

Defiantly Dutch: Weekend proves gap between football, basketball is big—and getting bigger
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2009/11/weekend-proves-gap-between-football.html
Monday, November 16, 2009. Weekend proves gap between football, basketball is big—and getting bigger. To be a fan of the Flying Dutchmen basketball program this weekend was to be as excited about what lies ahead as what just happened. To be a fan of the entire athletic department is also to ponder what was revealed in an 18-hour span Friday and Saturday and how it specifically symbolized the giant gap between basketball and football. There was no money to be made and no exposure to be had for Hofstra and...

Defiantly Dutch: How many dominoes will fall now that Northeastern has dropped football?
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2009/11/how-many-dominoes-will-fall-now-that.html
Monday, November 23, 2009. How many dominoes will fall now that Northeastern has dropped football? What school will be the next to hang up the helmets for good? If you’re like me and passed up the Flying Dutchmen football game at Northeastern nine days ago, you missed out on the final home game in Huskies history. Northeastern confirmed the rumors flying around on message boards last night when it announced the school is dropping football, effective immediately. The Boston Globe has a story about it here.

Defiantly Dutch: December 2014
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 1, 2014. For Chrebet, immortality was just a short walk away. Wayne Chrebet began his professional football career in the spring of 1995 by walking the few hundred feet that separated Colonial Square, his dormitory at Hofstra, from the Jets’ facility located just beyond the Physical Fitness Center. But it didn’t take Chrebet nor his former Hofstra teammates long to realize he might be walking his way right into the NFL. Hoping for it, but nobody really knows.”. 8217;” Shannon said&...

Defiantly Dutch: Of Shaka, softball and sinister selection committees
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2015/05/of-shaka-softball-and-sinister.html
Friday, May 15, 2015. Of Shaka, softball and sinister selection committees. The Western Athletic Conference (file photo). Six weeks ago last night, Shaka Smart left VCU for Texas. This is presented to you not for its newsworthiness—unless you were stuck under a rock for the last seven weeks, in which case, hey, Shaka Smart left VCU for Texas. This is not to denigrate James Madison or declare the Dukes didn’t deserve to host. It’s actually nice to see an NCAA Tournament selection committee...The Dutchwome...

Defiantly Dutch: Just The Facts 2015: Going 0-2 against a tourney foe
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2015/03/just-facts-2015-going-0-2-against.html
Thursday, March 5, 2015. Just The Facts 2015: Going 0-2 against a tourney foe. I saw this movie at a drive-in. GOOGLE IT DRAGONS SPEAK! Hello and welcome to the 2015 edition of “Just The Facts,” the sorta-annual pre-CAA Tournament series in which I dispense with my usual witty verbiage (snort) and present to you the key data in a Hofstra-related topic. We’ll stick with the Terminator theme, since the Flying Dutchmen won a tourney game with it last year! Or, in this case, lost to twice? Drexel loses to JM...

Defiantly Dutch: Just The Facts 2015: CAAT rematches of regular season finales
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2015/03/just-facts-2015-caat-rematches-of.html
Friday, March 6, 2015. Just The Facts 2015: CAAT rematches of regular season finales. Can The Terminator get the real Guns N' Roses back together? The Flying Dutchmen will see a familiar foe Saturday, when they open CAA Tournament play against James Madison at 2:30 PM. The Dutchmen’s regular season ended last Saturday with an 82-73 loss to the Dukes. Hofstra and James Madison have also been involved in the three times a team lost the finale but won the CAA Tournament rematch. The Dutchmen ended the 2...

Defiantly Dutch: When it comes to football, the CAA and scholarships, breaking up is hard to do--but necessary
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2009/09/breaking-up-football-is-hard-to-do-but.html
Thursday, September 24, 2009. When it comes to football, the CAA and scholarships, breaking up is hard to do- but necessary. That Jennifer Aniston is really hot is a secondary reason I posted this photo. OK maybe not. But it’s time. Enough is enough. Enough with the pretense that Hofstra can compete any longer at the highest level of Division I-AA football. As noted multiple times this calendar year, the CAA cannot simply add to the current roster of 12 once Old Dominion and Georgia State complete their ...

Defiantly Dutch: So why did the CAA throw such a parity party this season?
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2015/03/so-why-did-caa-throw-such-parity-party.html
Saturday, March 7, 2015. So why did the CAA throw such a parity party this season? The mascots for this season and this weekend? By any measure—statistical or the eye test—the 2015 CAA regular season was the most unpredictable and parity-ridden in at least 10 years. There was, as we all know, a four-way tie for first place at 12-6—the first three- or four-way tie in league history and just the third four-way tie at the Division I level in the last six years. 8220;You never know, when you check the scores...
