Seeking Praxis: November 2013
http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Monday, 4 November 2013. I've moved to Medium. A long overdue post here to mention that I've started sharing my musings on a new blogging platform called Medium. Developed by the people who developed Blogger, which this blog uses, Medium is much easier to use and will drastically reduce the time I spend faffing about with pictures*, font that seems to do it's own thing, and just generally trying to make things here look as I want them to. A note on pictures&...

http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Sunday, 29 January 2012. A Community Lover's Guide to Dudley. There’s growing excitement in the office I share with Melissa Guest at Dudley CVS about gathering stories for a Community Lover’s Guide to Dudley. Mel and I have volunteered to edit this book, which will be available to view online and to order in hard copy on demand. The following from the Community Lover’s Guide to the Universe site. Describes the background to the idea. I hope that sharing thes...

Seeking Praxis: February 2013
http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Thursday, 7 February 2013. Wired to share' - but not educated to. A short reflection on sharing. Yesterday I was part of a great session with colleagues from Dudley CVS, Dudley CCG, Dudley Public Health and Paul Webster. The way he does things! Maybe by seeing it happen this will be another nudge for my colleagues, taking them a step closer to working in this way. Much as Rachel Botsman. What helps you to remember to share and create with others? MEDIA TODAY...

Seeking Praxis: Subtle differences: how to identify creative collaborative activity
http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2013/03/subtle-differences-how-to-identify.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Wednesday, 27 March 2013. Subtle differences: how to identify creative collaborative activity. I’ve been learning a lot about what creative collaborative activity looks and feels like from Tessy Britton and Laura Billings. For any ornithologists reading this it’s a bit like trying to decide if you’re looking at a Willow Warbler or a Chiffchaff (without hearing any song). A Chiffchaff and a Willow Warbler. As Jason Lauritsen of Talent Anarchy. And one last we...

Seeking Praxis: April 2011
http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Monday, 18 April 2011. Basking in Social Glow! Despite us feeling a little unprepared and as if we were stepping in to the unknown, the first ever Social Media Surgery in Dudley, held on Thursday 14 April, was a roaring success. Martin had equipped the café with extension cables for laptops and we quickly settled in as our helpers started to arrive. To manage social media surgeries, using the fantastic social media surgery. Invited loads of people …...

Seeking Praxis: December 2011
http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Friday, 2 December 2011. In September I enrolled on a 12 week evening class at the Midlands Arts Centre. Called Talk Film. The course is led by Michael Clifford. Bikefilm), a BAFTA Award winning Director. One of Michael's most recent projects has been to make a no-budget film, Turbulence. The story of how this was done and how it turns the conventional approach to film-making on its head has intrigued me, with obvious parallels in community work. They were a...

Seeking Praxis: June 2012
http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Friday, 29 June 2012. Lamenting my languishing reflective place. So I haven't posted here for a good while. Which perhaps means that I haven't created enough time and space lately for considered reflection. Reflection on your own practice, values and beliefs is intrinsic to your work (whether it is paid or unpaid). I am fortunate to have carved out some time for reflective activities in my work, for example I convene an Action Learning. And there is so much ...

Seeking Praxis: August 2011
http://lornaprescott.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
A space for reflection on theory and practice. Sunday, 28 August 2011. How should my organisation approach listening, learning and sharing online? I am in the process of drafting an approach which the organisation could take to develop listening, learning, sharing and collaboration online. So far I’ve come up with three elements to the approach and some intended outcomes. The approach I’m suggesting is to:. Provide support in the form of:. Skills and needs analysis. Access to external training and suppor...

An unconference for lovers of Dudley's voluntary and community sector. What’s an unconference? Why I love unconferences. June 2, 2016. June 2, 2016. I’ve met totally amazing people at unconferences and learned all sorts of things … for free and without being bored stiff by a rotation of speakers and uninspiring powerpoint presentations. My first unconference experience was on a Saturday in Birmingham in April 2012, when the Talk About Local. Team organised an amazing event. Is awesome and now legendary.
