Monkey Helpline: Another two reasons to ban airgun ownership in South Africa
http://monkeyhelpline.blogspot.com/2012/02/another-two-reasons-to-ban-airgun.html
Sunday, 12 February 2012. Another two reasons to ban airgun ownership in South Africa. This post is the same information sent this week to the Northglen News, a community newspaper circulated in Durban North and surrounds. Using community newspapers is a very effective means of making the public aware of the work we do to rescue monkeys and educate people about them, because the newspapers reach most homes free of charge in the areas they cover. 8220;When people buy pellet guns the sellers do not notify ...

Join this Cause and you will help us destroy the scourge of pellet gun violence against innocent animals! Monkey Helpline: May 2011
http://monkeyhelpline.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 11 May 2011. Vervet monkey mating season is here and the result is that there is more squabbling, more fighting and lots of monkeys, particularly mature males, with severe injuries. The consequence of all of this is a huge amount of additional work for Monkey Helpline rescuers. Steve Smit, joint co-ordinator with Carol Booth of Monkey Helpline, says that many people become very nervous of monkeys when they see the aggression and ugly injuries that are so. Pics top to bottom:. Bottom - Monkeys ...

Monkey Helpline: April 2011
http://monkeyhelpline.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, 28 April 2011. VERVETS NEED YOUR HELP! Not a day goes by that I am not blown away by the ignorance of people. Now don’t get me. Wrong I’m not maligning everyone who doesn’t know everything about all that is dear to my heart. The folk I am referring to are those geniuses who make absolute statements about things they actually know very little about, and, because this is the Monkey Helpline blog, it’s the Vervet monkeys who are, as usual, central to my stint on the soap box. In truth, a healthy V...

Monkey Helpline: April 2010
http://monkeyhelpline.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 27 April 2010. ONE MAN AND HIS MONKEY! Of betrayal that would have flooded over Linda. I resolved to put extra effort into informing members of the public of the NSPCA policies relating to primates that are taken into the control of SPCA branches country-wide. But how did Linda actually get Bongo? Sunday, 18 April 2010. And all those monkeys? People often ask us what happens to the monkeys we rescue, which is a pretty intelligent question, sometimes! I mean, what would you think if these two cra...

Monkey Helpline: July 2010
http://monkeyhelpline.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, 31 July 2010. About a month ago, good friend Tracey Hartley, well known in the local animal care community for her efforts in helping feral cats, and equally well known for assisting in the finding of good homes for dogs and cats needing a “forever home”, responded to my call for assistance with a baby, eight month old Vervet monkey run over in Marine Drive, Umhlanga. We had no luck finding his troop and we were forced to take a very unhappy. Two days later we got the call and rushed down to Um...

Monkey Helpline: Vervet monkeys and garden birds
http://monkeyhelpline.blogspot.com/2012/03/vervet-monkeys-and-garden-birds.html
Tuesday, 06 March 2012. Vervet monkeys and garden birds. Did a talk about monkeys in the Port Edward library hall on Thursday last week, and when it came to audience comment and question time, sure enough the same old cliches about the destructive nature of monkeys were dredged up. As they they say, "nothing new under the sun"! So why is this claim that monkeys are breeding out of control a load of twaddle? Firstly, I would like to see the results of some unbiased research on the subject. Then I woul...

Monkey Helpline: November 2010
http://monkeyhelpline.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 16 November 2010. In the previous blog posting I told you about baby Kyle and how he ended up in the care of Monkey Helpline surrogate mom, Jenny Morgans. It was a sad tale of death and orphaning. Now I can share with you an experience that will bring tears of joy and leave you elated knowing that tragedy can have a happy ending. But first I must take you back about six weeks prior to the rescue of baby Kyle - (Top pic shows a crying, blood-smeared Kyle newly rescued off his dead mother's body).
