Mac Shitter- Rocker Box

Figure 1. Tappet cover threads repaired, they have been welded up and these were Helicoiled. Figure 2 and 3. These show the upper rockerbox before and after wet beadblasting. Gasket face was scraped and the rocker bores were re-machined. But water and bead is obviously fairly easy to use together. The thing that was most amazing was how virtually no bead remained on the surface or in threads. As you can see I blasted the oil ways! Figure 5. Was forced to blast all the rocker cover bit's.

I updated this the end of july 2010, I still have the engine in bit's, still waiting for a few parts. I have now had the bike two years! I got another pair of case, but they need some work. I have been putting it off but will get stuck in this weekend. Figure 1. As said before I couln't quite get over the rings;-). I have given up speculating on the order of damage and possible repairs the motor has been subjected to. I can't help feeling whoever had been in the engine knew the state it was in.

Figure 1. The timing side pinion, can't imagine why anyone needed to batter hell out of this. Unless it had sommething to do with hammering a bearing on the wrong way? Figure 1. The timing side pinion, looking good? I didn't actually entertain the idea of running the old bearing just checked the fit. The surprising thing is the route some of the the metal from the cam took to get to the bottom of the motor would have been thru the bearing, which doesn't look to bad? Once the cases were stripped out, I was able to remove the epoxy and survey the damage, this is when the large gap at the back of the repair became obvious. I have to say the repair seemed to hold the spindle nice and tight and the little plate was very neat. I haven't seen the plate since I took it off, if I find it I will take a photo of it. Figure 1. The 'hole'. There is a picture of the cases with the patch still attached on another page. Parts replaced and Jobs Carried Out. One way valve seat re-cut.
