Marty's Reliable Cycle – Saving the World With Bikes. Hackettstown Goes Campin’. What’s the 4th of July without fireworks, the great outdoors, and some good old fashioned bikecamping? Nick, Megan and Adam headed out this past weekend to experience Independence Day on the open road – and trail. I checked the forecast early Saturday morning – large, green masses plodded across the radar screen. But there’s always a few breaks in the rain, right? We headed down the lower lake road to our campsite and used t...

Don't Just Marvel…Do. June 10, 2015. I kept meaning to write race reports and then overdue updates and then…well. You know. So here it finally is. A not so short update of my racing and life. Going all the way back to January…the end of the cross season left me worn out and fighting sickness. The season wrapped up at the NCCX. Another exciting development happened in March. Don't Just Marvel…Do. 5: Pain is Inevitable. July 5, 2016. July 5, 2016. The first Monday in May rolled around and I rolled out of bed, slapped my contacts in, grabbed my mat and water bottle and made it to 6am yoga for the first time in my life! Sunday, April 18, 2010. Amy competed in our hometown triathlon Saturday for the second year in succession. Hoping to improve on her time from last year, and with a goal of placing in her age group, she arrived at the pool Saturday morning with no shoulder dislocations, collarbone breaks, sinus infections (mostly), colds, mechanical problems, etc. Amy was coming off a second-place finish at Wednesday's Ring of Fire in Asheville. Amy's band students felt that she should paint her nails black for the tri.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010. August 21-22, 2010, North Wilkesboro. I remember being a student at Appalachian State, driving back to Boone from Durham and getting stuck in the famous race-day traffic jams on US 421 just east of North Wilkesboro. During this era, racing fans were still able to make a twice-yearly pilgrimage to the Brushy Mountains, dubbed "the moonshine capital of A merica. To watch the sport's best racers duke it out in the cradle of stock car racing. North Wilkesboro. And capped off the f...

Marty's Reliable Cycle – Saving the World With Bikes. Jesse Fat Bikes the Shenandoah 100 MTB Race! A few weeks ago an anonymous friend and I headed down to the Stokesville Campground in Stokesville VA for the Shenandoah Mountain 100. For those who are unfamiliar, the SM100 is a 100 mile MTN bike race with about 12,000 feet of climbing through the Shenandoah mountain range in VA. My companion and I both have small children at home so we decided to drive straight home after the race despite being very tire...
