thejohnsonsinmexico: Seasons
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/2013/09/seasons.html
Monday, September 9, 2013. I've been thinking a lot about how life is one long strand of different seasons. And this can be a refreshing thought, if you're in a rough season, or a scary thought, if you're smooth sailing right now. It always makes me laugh to think how resistant we are to the changing of seasons instead of accepting that this is what life is. Life is. Pretend these are the horses I'm wrangling. We talk almost everyday about what the future might hold. Obviously, we don't know and so m...

thejohnsonsinmexico: Our Journey
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/p/journey.html
Not in Pakistan, necessarily, but to someday be a missionary in another country. That was the first time anything like this had crossed my mind. About the beginning of 2011, we felt an increasing burden to consider moving to Mexico. I felt God asking us to put our obedience to the test, and to go visit Josh and Dania Harder. E feel a strong conviction that our life is not our own, and that love does. Life is a journey of changing seasons and we want to be present for all of it! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

thejohnsonsinmexico: Good-bye Mexico
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/2013/11/good-bye-mexico.html
Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Life has been a whirlwind these last few weeks, hence the silence on here and Facebook. In just 2 weeks our time in Mexico will come to an end and we will be moving back to the States! It's definitely not the timing we had originally thought, but we've sort of had to embrace being flexible over the last few years! If you've never given away something that cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars, or something that you absolutely love, you should totally do it! Anything you gi...

thejohnsonsinmexico: June 2013
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 21, 2013. From Anger to Glitter. We've all heard it: life is a journey. But can we agree that it's sort of a bummer? Journeys are hard work, uncertain at times, and last a reeeeeeally long time. I'd rather life be a vacation, a party, or a never-ending plate of french fries. In my first session I was ready to get a bullet-point game plan for how to change my life, and hopefully this would only take a few weeks. My therapist laughed a little and told me it's a journey. Change will com...Was m...

thejohnsonsinmexico: What I hope for my kids
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/2013/10/what-i-hope-for-my-kids.html
Thursday, October 3, 2013. What I hope for my kids. And yet at times, it goes s.o.o.o. s.l.o.w. Like when we first arrived, those first 5 days seemed like forever. Now that we've been here for almost 400 days, 5 days seems like a drop in the bucket, like who can't survive for 5 days? I was sure we made a really big mistake moving here. I was sure we screwed up our kids for good. I hope they remember that not only is it possible to live with less, it's better. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

thejohnsonsinmexico: October 2013
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 24, 2013. Please *don't* hold your applause. Nothing is more important than to learn how to maintain a life of purpose in the midst of painful adversity.". What if you go unnoticed your entire life? Would you still do the work? My chest is getting tight just thinking about this. I didn't read that one and shrug it off because affirmation is like oxygen to me. My survival without it is debatable. It will be almost impossible to maintain a life of purpose. Keeping Jesus as the focus looks...

thejohnsonsinmexico: Thugs & Pimps & Bros & (S)Hoes
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/2013/09/thugs-pimps-bros-hoes.html
Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Thugs and Pimps and Bros and (S)Hoes. Since writing this, a friend brought up a really good point. She was saying how she doesn't like this shirt because the word Hoe is derogatory and offensive and no one would want to be referred to as such. I agree and I'm sorry if this post was offensive. So we added an "S" to Alan's shirt and it now reads "thugs and pimps and bros and shoes." Much better.*. Guys, I'm not super gangsta. Oh wait, you knew that? This is why I have a really ...

thejohnsonsinmexico: Support
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/p/support.html
We live on financial support, currently. It was really awkward asking people to support us- all I heard when I was talking was this: "Hey. We would like to move to another country to help people. Can we have some of your hard-earned money to do that? Thankfully, that's not what others heard! We have a strong support system of over 70 people who are partnering with us to bring beauty and restoration to this part of the world. We are so grateful to be here and so overwhelmed by the generosity of others!

Monday, January 28, 2013. I Laugh to Keep from Crying. Living in another culture has been…funny? All of the above? I wish I had a camera following us around some days so that we can watch the footage later and be amused by our sad little Spanish skills, our amazing charade skills, and our ability to survive each day. Sometimes I just have to laugh to keep from crying. But sometimes I do both at the same time and that scares the children. If this blog were a camera, here is the footage:. Speaking of the g...

thejohnsonsinmexico: Boundaries are our friends!
http://thejohnsonsinmexico.blogspot.com/2013/09/boundaries-are-our-friends.html
Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Boundaries are our friends! Since the general public was invited to join Facebook a few years ago, it's been a love/hate relationship for most people. I hear it all the time, and have even felt it myself- Facebook creates discontentment, comparison, depression, etc, and it's NOT real. I understand all these sentiments, and I agree it can cause these feelings, but I would argue that it's not Facebook's fault- it's User Error. I can't control you, or what you post. But I can.
