Mountains as I see them. January 25, 2015. Whipple Couloir and Waldo Couloir- Combat Skiing. Why didn't we ski north-facing terrain? At the top of Neff's, we quickly found the enigmatic Whipple Couloir, guarded by steep east facing ramps and dry western walls. It looked remote and super aesthetic. While combat skiing for sure, it was amazing to ski these two magical lines. Even better was the company. Brothers, Jared eyeing Whipple. Aaron, not sure what he is looking at. Mountains as I see them. April 14, 2012. Skiing Middle Teton and Nez Perce April 2012. Winter's Last Grasping Moon- A Dorais. Like all journeys the past can often be the driver of many futuristic goals and experiences. I was only 13 when I first gazed at the mighty Teton. Range Feeling overwhelmed but drawn to them like all visiting ships are pulled to the Death Star, I knew someday I would climb them all. In 1990, some years later, Rick Sunderlage. That same day. Unbeknownst. And the South, too tired to...

Mountains as I see them: In the middle of somewhere
http://ambroseut.blogspot.com/2015/03/in-middle-of-somewhere.html
Mountains as I see them. March 7, 2015. In the middle of somewhere. Today, Jared and I rose to greet the morning sun in the warm Wasatch dawn, following a long-awaited storm that arrived and delivered earlier this week. South and west faces were zipper crusted, but north and eastern aspects graciously welcomed us. Couloir #1- Steep and straight. The Samurai letting the morning begin. This became our highway of access up. Couloir #2- Ramp skiing. Steep and choked entry from the top. Couloir #4- "S" Couloir.

Mountains as I see them. March 29, 2014. White Baldy and Lake Peak. As life passes ever so quickly, day to day activities become the essence of our existence. However, far too often our senses and emotions become dulled from the stresses of life. The occasional entry into an environment that is far greater than ourselves provides a unique perspective on life. Scott, West Ridge GWB. Scott enjoying the granite and verglass. Mountains as I see them. February 1, 2014. New Snow, Superior and Toledo. Last week's blue bird days are gone, at least for now and for good reason. 20" or so, right side up snow fell this week in the high mountains. This morning Lars and I headed for Superior with low visibility and blackness all around. We ran into a group friends led by Scott W as they were heading with great plans for Days Fork. The Viking enjoying icy winds and a narrow sidewalk. Arie on the upper apron, suffering in the deep.

Mountains as I see them. April 11, 2014. Dromedary and White Pine Couloir. This morning Jared, Louie (a writer and photographer) and I had an excellent steep tour along a couple sections of the Cottonwood Ridge. A side note- I had previously lost my pair of ski crampons. Jason, who recently started Skimo Co. Had just the crampons I needed. It is exciting to see a local business like this starting out strong and supplying exactly what we need. Keep at it Jason! Approaching summit via exposed ridgeline.

Mountains as I see them: Spring Mountain Travels
http://ambroseut.blogspot.com/2015/06/spring-mountain-travels.html
Mountains as I see them. June 6, 2015. The past few days have been really great. Amidst the many responsibilities of life, I have been able to escape to the hills and enjoy the changing season. And I, after not having skied together in a while, we were excited to be able to get two great ascents done together. The direct and then Geurts were wonderful, with stable rock, an impending rain storm and downclimbing both rappel sections. We topped out in on the South Summit in an icy rain. We had an en...Stowi...
