Cons 351WI: Victoria's Blog. Thursday, December 4, 2008. Chris’s entry shows his research in the Giulio Cesare performance recorded on the album directed by René Jacobs. http://victoriasmusichx.blogspot.com/2008/09/hildegard-von-bingen.html

Cons 351WI: Victoria's Blog. Thursday, September 11, 2008. Hildegard's music is drastically different from the standardized chant found in the church during her time. Hildegard's music, like the majority of music in the church during the medieval period, was music for voice only. Her antiphons (two choirs singing) and responses (one person sings, then the choir), explored on the album, Hildegard von Bingen: Canticles of Ecstasy. Posted by Victoria Brown @ 5:26 PM. Cons 351WI: Victoria's Blog. Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. Antonio Vivaldi was a center-part of late Baroque music and particularly famous for his concerti as they explored the potential of instrumental music in ways never seen before his time. Posted by Victoria Brown @ 1:18 PM. Music History Tidbit: Many Classical music stylistic features that we now accredit to Mozart actually began with C.P.E. Bach, the youngest son of J.S. Bach. Cons 351WI: Victoria's Blog. Monday, October 27, 2008. Gilles Binchois, Mon Souverain Desir response. Get your floppy, pointy, bulky Renaissance hats on; it is time for lovin’ like it is 1420! And what sets the mood better than one of Binchois's chanson? Works by Gilles Binchois, a central figure in the development of the Burgundian chanson, can be found on the album Mon Souverain Desir, which has a very distinct, universal theme: romantic love. Women flashing their ankles? Perhaps in other dance halls w...

Monday, December 8, 2008. Ah, the end of the semester. Each fall semester ends with the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries in the musical Baroque. The period is a great one for dramatic music as opera enters the world stage and for every other genre as opera enriches them. I think you'll find much of interest in this batch of blogs:. A journal entry on Alessandro Scarlatti's oratorio Il Primo Omicidio. And a response to Jaime Tyser's entry. A journal entry on Handel's Giulio Cesare. I was immediat...

http://351s.blogspot.com/2008/11/renaissance-listening-journals.html

Saturday, November 1, 2008. Here we are, 2/3rds of the way through the semester, and it is time for another round of listening journals, this time of music from the Renaissance. You'll see how the students approached this repertoire on their individual blogs:. A journal entry on Josquin des Prez's "Motets et chansons" and a response to Victoria Brown's entry.
