Travis Heights Garden Mama: 2015-06-28
http://123thgm.blogspot.com/2015_06_28_archive.html
Travis Heights Garden Mama. Sunday, June 28, 2015. My common sunflowers have done their annual take-over of the back garden. Spreading their branches in the sun, I have to duck around them to navigate the space. They are cheerful, native, feed wildlife and my hens, so I shouldn't complain. I only dislike when they become old, dry and woody and I get splinters from their prickly stems. I have finally ID'ed this volunteer plant:. Acorn squash- of course more productive than any I ever plant on purpose!

Travis Heights Garden Mama. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Dog days and other "wildlife". We are in the dog days for sure. Dragonfly- maybe a skimmer or pondhawk? Cleverly hiding on a dead pyracantha twig. Green lynx spider in the goldenrod. Katydid in the Pride of Barbados. Black and yellow argiope spider. there were two on the Green Belt on either side of the path, easily two inches long (including their legs). As for my plants, well. Some have done fabulously. My new pomegranate tree. Some plants are so so.

Travis Heights Garden Mama: Wildlife Wednesday!
http://123thgm.blogspot.com/2015/06/wildlife-wednesday.html
Travis Heights Garden Mama. Wednesday, June 3, 2015. Gulf Fritillaries playing tag at the Natural Gardener. Black swallowtail in their butterfly garden. I think this is a Silver Spotted Skipper. At home the bugs have been peskier. This milkweed leaf beetle laid eggs that decimated the plant despite my daily picking and squashing. I think this katydid was pretty harmless. This Hentz jumping spider dropped onto me and acted ferocious despite being tiny. I brushed him into the grass. June 4, 2015 at 6:32 AM.

Travis Heights Garden Mama. Friday, March 27, 2015. So much promise this time of year! I wish I kept bees so I could turn the amazing honey smell of my Wisteria into reality. It is practically vibrating with fat bumblebees. And the mountain laurels. of course! Can I acidify this potted blueberry bush enough to get these flowers to bear fruit? A volunteer red poppy will stand watch. Coral honeysuckle in its glory. Almost tropical Mexican honeysuckle tucked into lush flat parsley. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Travis Heights Garden Mama. Thursday, June 11, 2015. Despite the rain, another patch of ill-suited St Augustine in my yard has bitten the dust. Actually, it seemed to have turned to dust even this spring, leading to an ombre effect in the yard that isn't nearly as appealing as it is on fashion items and Pinterest. As for chicken updates, last year's "girls" are laying and the flock has two more additions (thanks to an irresistable group of chicks at Buck Moore Feeds). Cheep (they were even on sale.).
