Monday, May 12, 2014. Zakopane and the Crocuses. We went with Ilona and some of her friends to Zakopane this spring to see the crocuses. It was a nice walk into the valley that was mostly flat. We rented bikes so that was a blast. A nice lady was selling oscypek (the mountain cheese that we love) so be bought some as a snack on our walk. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Skiing in Slovakia for Iza's Birthday. For Iza's birthday we went skiing in the mountains in Slovakia. I was so excited and we were blown away by the great views. The first morning was great we went to the top and explored several different runs. Then we stopped for a late lunch break and after lunch decided to go back up to the top. Thursday, January 31, 2013. Here Comes the SUN! We have learned this winter that Poland doesn't get as cold as Wisconsin or Minnesota but it does get grayer in the winter. It has been long time coming but we have officially seen the sun THREE DAYS IN A ROW! Thursday, July 4, 2013. Karlsplatz, this is where we thought the tour was going to start but it didn't. So we did our own self guided walking tour and it was great. Nice, slow and relaxing. Throughout the two days we were in Vienna this square became our homebase and we really liked it. There was an area with a film festival and cold pools to dip your feet in. Thursday, November 28, 2013. This morning we baked three apple pies. Tonight we will bake one more. Hope everyone gets to spend Thanksgiving with people they enjoy. We will be celebrating tomorrow with our 50 students! Tuesday, November 26, 2013. The next day we did do a walking tour of Dublin. We went to the Dublin castle, some cool doors, an outline of a Viking door, trinity college, and temple bar. Here are some pictures. We learned that Vikings slept 10 to a bed! On a last day we toured Guinness.

Thursday, November 15, 2012. Since moving to Poland I have learned a lot of random stuff but, one of my favorites is that you don't need a muffin pan to make muffins! We bought this muffin mix with the thought that we would make it into bread, but then we looked at the directions we realized they don't use a muffin tins here! Wednesday, January 30, 2013. As many of you know, over Christmas break Genna and I took a trip to Munich. By car it is about 7 hour drive. By train it was going to take about 22 hours and we would have had to change trains several times. The best option we found was taking a bus. It took 17 hours. We used Sindbad bus company. Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Learning to use our washing machine has been a challenge. At first when we "washed" clothes, when cycle was finished our clothes were still dry. We tried pushing some buttons and turning the dials until it started again. Once it stopped after over an hour of washing the washer would still be full of water. It was our first time in a sleeper car and I found it surprisingly easy to sleep. It was a great way to travel after many overnight bus rides that have been less than comfortable.
