Notes from a Broken Society. Society, Philosophy, Culture, Dissent. Jeremy Corbyn to top leadership poll? His opponents should stop panicking and up their game. July 15, 2015. Middot; by Neil Schofield. The panic among some Labour people on social media after two private polls suggested. That Jeremy Corbyn will top the Labour leadership poll has been wondrous to behold. Time to get some perspective. Labour, in office from 1997 to 2010, lifted a million children out of poverty. Why do its leaders R...

Casey's Worlds: Golden meadow invasion
http://caseysworlds.blogspot.com/2015/05/golden-meadow-invasion.html
Sunday, May 17, 2015. Right on schedule, and seeming to arrive almost overnight, our neighborhood meadows, even lawns, are flush with golden carpets of buttercups. This brilliant Northwest version, the Creeping buttercup. Is one of many welcome additions to Bellingham's many emerging wildflower mosaics. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). New spring color scheme. Look who's finally taking to his new mattress. Did I hear you right? Hey, forget the new toy, let's go.".

mancunian green: April 2011
http://mancuniangreen.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, 24 April 2011. Save Manchester Sure Start. The campaign produced the following draft statement which was agreed overwhelmingly at the meeting (with the addition of a deadline of Tues 3rd May for the council to agree - just before polling day.). I agree totally with the statement. This Forum agrees that despite the City Council's finances, Manchester's Sure Start Childrens Centres should remain publicly funded and run as a public service which in our view will ensure better quality standards and g...

mancunian green: February 2011

Sunday, 20 February 2011. Links to the Past. They say nostalgia isn't what it used to be; that may be true but it still exists, as brought home by two events which I attended in the last few days. And here's the MEN account on the 'reunion' Reunion. It was good to see many links to the Green Party; among those speaking about their experiences were long time Green activist Lance Crookes (seen on video here. Expansion is still on the cards at Manchester Airport however – homes and environment are thr...

mancunian green: June 2010
http://mancuniangreen.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, 24 June 2010. How Green is Our Valley. Last Sunday I attended two events in our local green lung, the Mersey Valley. The first was a walk organised by the 'Friends of Chorlton Meadows (FOCM)' (see blog. Bees have been in the news a lot recently and not for the right reason. The honey bee has been hit very badly by a disease called Colony Collapse Disorder, whilst in recent decades many species of bumble bee have gone into decline or even disappeared from this country as habitat has been lost.

mancunian green: High Speed Rail - Green? - Good for Manchester?
http://mancuniangreen.blogspot.com/2011/07/high-speed-rail-green-good-for.html
Tuesday, 5 July 2011. High Speed Rail - Green? There's been a lot of propaganda around recently in support of the Government's High Speed Rail plan (HS2) for London to Birmingham, and subsequently to Manchester and Leeds. A couple of weeks ago I saw a group of people with balloons and leaflets in Piccadilly Gardens, seeking to convince passers by to sign up to the scheme. Adverts can also be seen on the local buses. Is it the boon its supporters claim? Is it worth the cost? Less than today. We need a...

mancunian green: January 2011
http://mancuniangreen.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, 22 January 2011. Liberal Democrats Waning Here. There have been two ward by-elections in the City of Manchester since last May's combined general and local elections, and the results of them cannot make pleasant reading for the City's official Opposition Party, the Liberal Democrats. In November's Hulme by-election, the Lib Dems absolutely flooded the ward with leaflet after leaflet claiming 'It's neck and neck! It's Lib Dems or Labour! Greens and Tories can't win here! Perhaps chastened by thi...

mancunian green: Greens and Art
http://mancuniangreen.blogspot.com/2011/06/greens-and-art.html
Sunday, 19 June 2011. I've thought it myself, and I've heard other people say it 'the green movement would benefit from more artistry'; and for green movement also read protest movements generally, including the recent anti-cuts demonstrations. Well, if some recent events that I've attended are a guide, there is a growing interweaving of political action and art. Also included an artistic thread, along with discussions and entertainment, in a four hour event in the centre of Platt Fields Park. I am curre...
