Rome tours and info. Travel tips: the Vatican city. April 5, 2010. January 28, 2015. Dress code and photography. Everything is different in the Vatican, it’s a foreign country after all, so what works in Rome may not work over there. If you are planning a visit there prepare yourself to go through security checks as you leave the country! No sharp objects (pocket knives, scissors and the like). Water is allowed as long as it’s in plastic, positively no glass bottles. Here’s an example:. As everybody know...

Colosseum – rome and about
https://romeandabout.com/tag/colosseum
Rome tours and info. January 19, 2012. October 24, 2012. The average Roman is somewhat unfriendly, walking the streets or Rome you will bump into lots of them scurring along, going about their business, oblivious to the people around, endlessly talking to their cellphones. 8217; or ‘Skip the line to the Museums! 8217;, too bad most of the times there’s no line at all. So my advice would be to book any ticket (be the Colosseum or the Vatican) online to avoid the scalpers and save time to boot. The mus...

basilica – rome and about
https://romeandabout.com/tag/basilica
Rome tours and info. The Basilica of San Clemente. March 8, 2010. March 10, 2010. It begins, as so many things in Rome begin, with a stout foundation of antique travertine, and rises high, in delicately quaint mediaeval brickwork – little tiers and apertures sustained on miniature columns and adorned with small cracked slabs of green and yellow marble, inserted almost at random. This basilica is dedicated to St Clement (92-101 AD) who is considered the third successor to Saint Peter in Rome. Unfortun...

Jewish Ghetto – rome and about
https://romeandabout.com/tag/jewish-ghetto
Rome tours and info. February 9, 2010. March 28, 2012. This is the best time of the year for eating the Roman artichokes that we call. This is a local quality that grows in the Roman countryside and all the Lazio region. From february to the end of april the artichoke fairs flourish in all the area. Just take a stroll in one of the many city markets to see artichoke bunches abounding on the stalls. They are round, fleshy, tender, perfect for being stuffed and little goes wasted.
