For many years, Dominic McHugh has visited developing countries to teach and treat adults and children who have blinding eye disorders. After qualification at The Middlesex Hospital Medical School, Mr McHugh underwent specialist training in ophthalmology at St Thomas’ Hospital and then Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He also undertook a period of research into the applications of semi-conductor diode lasers in ophthalmology, for which he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine by the University of London.

Approximately 200 cases per year, performing either pars plana vitrectomy or scleral buckling procedures. Approximately 250 cases per year of cataract removal and lens implantation. Performs and supervises approximately 10-15 laser procedures each week (Slit Lamp, Indirect, Endolaser and Transcleral) for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions and retinal tears. An infrared diode laser is used, for which I was one of the pioneers in developing and introducing for ophthalmic use.
