Charting a year long career break between Feb 2011 and Jan 2012 this slightly skewed, and painfully honest, blog was Ian's take on what happened when he and his wife, Helen, decided to to travel the world. One year, lots of fun: Africa to SE Asia to Alaska to Canada to USA to South America. Thursday, 14 June 2012. Responsible volunteering - some thoughts. This reader wrote a polite and flattering comment - a surefire way to get my attention. 1) Do your research.

Global Insights: First two weeks in Africa
http://robinelander.blogspot.com/2011/01/first-two-weeks-in-africa.html
Insights from Asia, Latin America and Africa. Sunday, January 23, 2011. First two weeks in Africa. So I’m in Africa. 8211; Pundamillia, Kenya to be exact. How did I pick this orphanage to start? The first two weeks have been a whirlwind of hugging little kids at the orphanage, trying to learn all of their names, getting sick way too much and taking matatus (crowded public transportation minivans, with blaring music) all over the region. Learning the kids stories is sad and heartwarming at the same time.
