LIVE now. LEARN from yesterday. LOVE always. Tuesday, 10 December 2013. A trip to the peninsula after a spell of cold water yielded a surprise, a Spotted Gully Shark! Thought to have made it's way to the estuary in search of warmer water, it ended up close to shore and Shirley and I were able to see it up close and personal! There was a large group of interesting people that were gathered, and it was a good walk, and we managed to find a few nests. All in all a productive and thoroughly enjoyable day!

As we only went to the cave every third day, and trials were run at night when the bats were active, I had a lot of spare time on my hands. For some of the day I did the responsible thing and worked, but I also took the opportunity to see what De Hoop was all about. Jeffrey, the four-striped field mouse that shared our kitchen! During an introductory talk it was stressed that the animals are all rescued in some way, and were not abused in the training process at the elephant park. Unfortunately the whole experience was otherwise minimally educational, with the focus on getting groups out to feed the elephants (a group of about 6 animals) and then you could have a brief touch and photo with one of the younger males.
