Peak District | Walking Peter

Documenting walks with my friends. Even though the Peak District is the nearest set of mountains to me I have vary rarely walked in them. However, recently, since joining British Military Fitness (BMF), I have been persuaded to organise occasional walks for my fellow BMFers and The Peaks seemed the perfect place to walk. Loughrigg Fell | Walking Peter

Documenting walks with my friends. With a large car park just a few miles North of Ambleside on the A591 parking was easy. Heading South, out of the car park, across the footbridge makes a nice easy start to this walk. Rather than heading for the track against the shores of Rydal Water this route takes you up slightly to the caves and the disused quarry. Start point: Car park off A591. Map: OL7 The English Lakes: SE. Length: 4 miles (6.6km). Est time: 2hrs 20mins. Memory Map Route: MMO file.

Castle Crag | Walking Peter

Documenting walks with my friends. View to Castle Cragg. The track eventually turns in to a footpath running close to the River Derwent. Follow the path for half a mile or so, passing High Hows Wood, to Pennybrid Dub. Here we leave the Cumbria Way and start the ascent to Castle Crag. View down River Derwent. Green Rocks in river. Coledale Horseshoe | Walking Peter

On a frosty winters morning we turned left out of the Royal Oak pub and headed west on the B5292 and made our first mistake by taking the wrong footpath After some cursing and heading cross country for 5 mins we eventually got back on the right path. After a sharp climb and 2.5km in we got out first real sight of Grisedale Pike and it really became evident of what was in store for us. View to Grisedale Pike. Slope to Grisedale Pike. Cat Bells | Walking Peter

Documenting walks with my friends. Cat Bells is a lovely walk and a great starter Wainwright for those unsure about walking in the hills. Parking on the roadside is relatively easy and with the walk, to the top and back, totalling a little under 2 miles (3.1km) and with a total accent of 341m this is quite a gentle climb. Once half way up looking across to Bassenthwaite, with Swinside in the foreground, you get a real good appreciation of the Lake Districts vastly changing landscape. Est time: 1hrs 20mins.
