4. GMV – Gibraltar – Walks With Kay

https://walkswithkay.wordpress.com/2013/06/10/gmv-gibraltar

June 10, 2013. 4 GMV – Gibraltar. March 27, 2013. After visiting Morocco, we continued on to Gibraltar. Once in port, we took the cable car up to the top of the rock. From there we had a great view of Catalan Bay. We wandered down to St. Michael’s Cave. The cave consists of an upper hall connected to a smaller hall and a series of chambers including the Cathedral cave. Concerts and other events are held in this section. Next stop, Malta. This entry was posted in 2013 Grand Mediteranean Voyage.

Penguins Close Up – Walks With Kay

https://walkswithkay.wordpress.com/2013/01/14/penguins-close-up

January 14, 2013. Some of you may be wondering what happened to my postings – well, my blog bogged! The internet connections via satellite on the ship proved to be too slow to allow me to blog while I was on the ship, so I gave up that idea and decided to wait until I was home. Instead of posting my experiences in chronological order, I am going to post by themes, starting with Penguins. Just getting to Volunteer Point, proved to be an adventure. The penguins share the area with the sheep. After their ch...

Sea Lions and Cormorants – Walks With Kay

https://walkswithkay.wordpress.com/2013/01/19/sea-lions-and-cormorants

January 19, 2013. Sea Lions and Cormorants. After leaving Antarctica we headed for Cape Horn. However, the waters around the cape proved to be too rough to allow us to get close to do the scenic cruising planned for the area and we continued on to Ushuaia, Argentina, one of the southernmost cities in the world. Three workers take a break while unloading freight. Sea gulls fly around the ship as we dock. We board a catamaran to explore the Beagle Channel. Along side the boat, a bird gets a running start.

5. GMV – Malta – Walks With Kay

https://walkswithkay.wordpress.com/2013/07/05/5-gmv-malta

July 5, 2013. 5 GMV – Malta. March 31 – April 1, 2013. We arrived at Malta early on Easter morning. We sailed past the old fortress walls of the city of Valleta, the capital of Malta, on our way to Pinto Wharf. What a great sight! The Knights of St. John, later known as the Knights of Malta, came to Malta 1530 and were responsible for building the palaces, fortifications and other historical structures that give Valletta its unique character. Even much of the roof is constructed with the huge boulders.

8a. GMV – Israel (Jerusalem) – Walks With Kay

https://walkswithkay.wordpress.com/2013/12/22/8a-gmv-israel-jerusalem

December 22, 2013. 8a GMV – Israel (Jerusalem). April 9, 2013. Our ship docked at Ashdod, Israel. We left almost immediately for an excursion (10 hours) of Jerusalem and the old city. Our first stop was at the top of the Mount of Olives where we had a wonderful view of the whole old city. Including the Dome of the Rock,. The Church of Mary Magdalene,. And the gray-domed al-Aksa mosque is at the southern end of the Temple Mount. We then drove to the Western Gate. And the (Wailing) Wall. We then continued ...

Linda Letters:: August 2014

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Saturday, August 30, 2014. Seattle returned to the weather it is known for today - heavy gray skies and light rain. It was refreshing after so many days of plus 80, and because it was not a heavy rain it didn't spoil the fun of going into the city for a Sounders soccer match. Tom and I went in early enough to do the March to the Match, which forms in Occidental Park and goes about five blocks to the stadium through old Seattle. That structure in front of...

Linda Letters:: June 2015

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Riverfront Park in Memphis. The motivation for this trip to the south was family driven. A 50th wedding anniversary in California and a wedding in New Orleans six days later called for a trip with some exploring in between. Tom said he wanted to see the Mississippi Delta for himself, to see if it was like it has been portrayed in books and movies. Fields of soybeans and wood lots. Linda Letters:: February 2015

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Friday, February 27, 2015. Why I Bought a Hay Hook. When we go to Rockaway, we always like to stop in Wheeler, a small town on the Nehalem Bay, and visit the Wheeler Station Antique Mall. This trip was no exception. We never know what we might end up with. But I could not have expected to come away with this. So what am I going to do with a hay hook? I don't expect to be hooking any more hay bales, but I can get hooked on the memories. Links to this post.

Linda Letters:: Nature Hike at Kilchis Point Reserve, Tillamook Bay.

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2015/08/nature-hike-at-kilchis-point-reserve.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Nature Hike at Kilchis Point Reserve, Tillamook Bay. Wednesday morning our activity was to explore a hike new to us that family members had recently discovered. While the trail is old, the improvements and the publicity are new, and we are always up for a new adventure. First we did some reading. Morning Star of Tillamook,. Wildlife sighting - the dreaded Pacific Northwest Rain Forest Banana slug! She did try them, and declared th...

Linda Letters:: April 2015

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Sunday, April 26, 2015. We bought this bird bottle in Colonial Williamsburg many years ago, and hung it in a corner of the house outside the family room window. This was tricky, because the parent wrens did not like for us to be around when they were tending their young. I zoomed into the house to see what I could see, and I think I might be able to see two heads at the top of the inside of the bottle. We love our little wren family. Share this text ?

Linda Letters:: September 2014

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. It's the last day of September. It turned out to be a more pleasant day than we were expecting. Tom just mowed the lawn, which has gone lush again after the rain and an application of fertilizer. Sunday I got in my 3.5 mile walk and then worked in the yard with Tom. I have begun cleaning out the beds and cutting back spent perennials. Those dahlias will soon come out and be replaced with tulip bulbs ↓. The geranium jungle is ...

Linda Letters:: March 2015

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Monday, March 30, 2015. My sister Laurie and her husband Arnold, who live near Winlock, Washington, hosted a family reunion Sunday. The reason for this timing was that my brother Don and wife Sheree were visiting from the Boston area. The five of us surviving siblings are rarely all together in the same place, so when that happens, it calls for making it an occasion. It took some work to get the third generation to settle for their photo. They are a ...

Linda Letters:: January 2015

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Saturday, January 31, 2015. When Jill and the kids moved into their house a little over a year ago, they were very excited about the hot tub on the deck. But alas, that old tub had serious plumbing problems and after much fixing that didn't work, the decision was made not to pour any more time or money into it. When I arrived later in the morning, deconstruction had begun. This work was too heavy for me, so I gardened. Irene hugged me and said that "Tree...

Linda Letters:: November 2014

http://lindaletters.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Daily Life of a Retired Teacher Living in Seattle. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. I'm feeling a lot of gratitude these days - for the ability and the means to travel and learn, for the technology to share our experiences with friends and family, and for those friends and family who share our blessings and are blessings to us. That includes all of you, my virtual friends. I bought the golden euonymous shrub and the pansy. The rest came from our own nursery. Tom's little bonsai grove was looking good. While...

Walks With Kay

September 11, 2014. One of my favorite places to unwind is along the beaches on the Oregon coast so on Friday I headed down south. The first day was very hot, then the fog rolled in and the temperature dropped. While the weather wasn’t the greatest for taking pictures, it was still good for beach combing and bird watching. At night, bon fires lit up the beach. By Sunday evening, the fog had lifted enough that one could watch the sun set. We watched a whale swim in the bay below the lighthouse. Enter your...
