Fuji Otaku: Eugene and BMW K100RS
http://nihonmaru.blogspot.com/2014/08/eugene-and-bmw-k100rs.html
Sunday, August 24, 2014. Eugene and BMW K100RS. Quite a bit has happened since I last posted to this blog. To some extent, this is an experiment to see how much audience remains. Long-time readers know that my family (wife/son) recently resides in Japan while I split my time between there and the U.S. Recently, I moved our U.S. homeport, so to speak, from its 17 year tenure in Washington DC to Eugene, Oregon. Fuji Otaku: The Phoenix Project - Pasela Panaracer Tourguard 28mm Tires
http://nihonmaru.blogspot.com/2011/08/phoenix-project-pasela-panarace.html
Monday, August 1, 2011. The Phoenix Project - Pasela Panaracer Tourguard 28mm Tires. Background on The Phoenix Project is available here. It certainly is no secret that many cyclists are persnicketedly passionate about the subject of tires. But I'm not one of them; the whole subject bores me as I use up my entire allotment of finer sensibilities about fine differences on things like tortoiseshell guitar picks. Has been pushing the Pasela Panaracers for years, for goodness sakes! Nobody has ever gotten fi...

Fuji Otaku: Up McKenzie Pass on the Estate Bike.
http://nihonmaru.blogspot.com/2014/10/up-mckenzie-pass-on-estate-bike.html
Sunday, October 5, 2014. Up McKenzie Pass on the Estate Bike. I rode up to McKenzie Pass the other day, starting at McKenzie River Ranger Station. You can park there in the overflow parking. Route 242, the way to McKenzie Pass, is a mile or two up the road. This area around here is damp rain forest, judging by the side of the road verdant moss quotient. This is where the McKenzie Pass Highway officially starts at its intersection with 126. There is a parking area here as well. Higher altitude arid forest.

Thursday, July 28, 2011. The Phoenix Project - Royce Titan Venus Hubs. Before getting into today's topic, I've encountered some diplomatic but decidely negative feedback about ditching the rating system, so it is back, for now anyhow. Prior to the commencement of The Phoenix Project. I posted an entry about hub selection criteria and shopping experience here. These are made in a hollow tree. I recommend these guys highly, they get the full monty - 5 Otakus:. Well, on with the games. Just purchasing these...

Fuji Otaku: The Phoenix Project - Running Commentary I
http://nihonmaru.blogspot.com/2011/07/phoenix-project-running-commentary-i.html
Thursday, July 28, 2011. The Phoenix Project - Running Commentary I. I received the following query about The Phoenix Project. Do you ever worry that all of these amazing parts could out-fabulous the frame? Not to suggest the frame isn't fabulous, because it is. In a word, no. Among touring folks who aren't particularly vintage or Trek inclined, they are also a pretty iconic model. So again, no, I'm quite comfortable with this. My previous 620, which was ridden very hard by me for 10 years, had a lot...

Fuji Otaku: The Phoenix Project - Torturous Rack Question
http://nihonmaru.blogspot.com/2011/07/phoenix-project-torturous-rack-question.html
Saturday, July 30, 2011. The Phoenix Project - Torturous Rack Question. Background on The Phoenix Project is available here. My Nitto M12 rack and cantilever mount bolts arrived a day or so ago and I got to tinkering around with them today. The cantilever brake mounting points also make this a real clean installation. I had a similar Nitto on my previous Trek 620, but back in those dark days, the only option available was p-clamps on the forks. This worked fine, but was a little ugly:. One of those old b...
