Ralph Kramden: February 2005
http://szstein.blogspot.com/2005_02_01_archive.html
Ralphie-boy on politics, wine, baseball, music, judaica. Wednesday, February 16, 2005. Bill Moyers: They govern like there's no tomorrow. This Bill Moyers article. Has been reverberating around my corners of the 'net for the past week or so. The thesis is that the Republicans have long had a large streak of fundamentalist Christianity, and these fundamentalists are expecting The Rapture real soon now, so there's no need to conserve the environment, or save for the future, and they govern like it. I'd muc...

Ralph Kramden: The Lineup Toy
http://szstein.blogspot.com/2007/01/lineup-toy.html
Ralphie-boy on politics, wine, baseball, music, judaica. Saturday, January 13, 2007. Creating a batting order has long been an interest of mine. Around this time of year, baseball fans start discussing and thinking about lineups for their teams, and the question is always "what lineup would be best to use". So I made a little toy program I call The Lineup Toy. To help answer the question, or at least provide a useful starting point. 1 Put the best OPS in 3rd. 2 Put the best remaining Slg in 4th. Now, thi...

Ralphie-boy on politics, wine, baseball, music, judaica. Monday, March 07, 2005. Why do journalists keep bad sources confidential? I understand why journalists keep sources confidential. I haven't figured a general rule to judge the "ethics" of journalism regarding criminals, but when there's no criminality involved, it's pretty clear that confidentiality of sources benefits our society greatly. EXCEPT when the journalists keep confidentiality even when the source LIES to them! Posted by Steve : 5:21 PM.

Ralph Kramden: August 2005

Ralphie-boy on politics, wine, baseball, music, judaica. Tuesday, August 30, 2005. And a couple more white wines. It's hot and muggy. One of the good things about hot, muggy days is cold, sweet white wines. And so I have two more "cheap" white wine recommendations:. Sauvignon Blanc (Napa, 2004) is a great find! Kabinett (Nahe, 2003) is a nice introduction to German Mosel wines. For Kabinetts, it's medium dry, but it's still a "sweet" wine to me. And it's only $8 - quite a find for the money. It was a coo...

Ralphie-boy on politics, wine, baseball, music, judaica. Monday, July 18, 2005. Charlie Pierce is a national treasure. Vamping on Karl Rove. But hey, is it The Prospect that makes Charles unavailable on Alterman any more? Say it's not so! Posted by Steve : 5:09 PM. Sunday, July 17, 2005. Bob Kuttner, mensch. In my view, it shows courage and confidence and strength of character. In yiddish, this is known as "menschlichkeit". Which brings me to Bob Kuttner of The American Prospect. Ralph Kramden: "Foreigner by C. J. Cherryh" cover art
http://szstein.blogspot.com/2011/11/foreigner-by-c-j-cherryh-cover-art.html
Ralphie-boy on politics, wine, baseball, music, judaica. Friday, November 11, 2011. Foreigner by C. J. Cherryh" cover art. Wikipedia says, " Although drawn by different artists, the cover art for the series maintains a fairly consistent look and feel.". Michael Whalen (1,2); establishes forever the mind-picture of Jago and Bren in the Invader cover (my favorite cover of the series by far, until recently, maybe). Artistry 4/5; portrayal of Atevi: 4/5; portrayal of Bren: 4/5 (Invader much better portrayals).
