Change | The Road Less Travelled
https://wanderingmedic.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/change
By Beth Routledge on August 3, 2015. It’s changeover day on Wednesday. I went to the supermarket after work today, and almost without thinking about it I did the sort of grocery shop you do when you’re about to go onto a run of nights. I haven’t done nights since the Commonwealth Games, but in my new job I’m starting on Team Nightshift. 8221; or maybe, “where are the toilets? This time of year is weird for more than just the FY1s. 8220;Scarecrow,”. 8220;I think I’ll miss you most of all.”. Ah, good luck ...

For All Doctors: New and Old, Starting and Starting Over and Starting Again. By Beth Routledge on August 5, 2015. Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. And w...
Dear Baby Doctors | The Road Less Travelled
https://wanderingmedic.wordpress.com/2015/07/28/dear-baby-doctors
By Beth Routledge on July 28, 2015. Dear Nearly New FY1s,. I remember my shadowing as a blur of paperwork and an urgent sense that I needed to assimilate. In the week I had before someone handed me a pager and left me with actual responsibility for actual patients. I kept thinking that eventually I’d be escorted from the building when someone realised that I’d graduated medical school by mistake. I felt a little bit as if Sputnik had landed on my head. I can’t believe I get to do. This for a job. There i...

It’s Time) To Build A Cairn. By Beth Routledge on December 15, 2014. I suspect that the answer is: not one that behaves like this. It is clear that for those of us in the Scottish Episcopal Church, the fight is far from over. But that’s for tomorrow, because marriage equality will become the law of our land at midnight tonight and that is a thing for which we must be joyful and celebrate. It has been a long journey and one that I am and will always be proud to have been on. Larr; Four Hours in A&E. As it...

The Best of Times. Theres no such thing as an ordinary human. The Too-Rapid Passage of Time. Jun 17th, 2011 at 10:43 PM. As I sat on the train from the Borders, my phone pinged with a new email. It seems that some fool in an office somewhere thinks that I’m an applicant for the Foundation Programme 2012 and as such I ought to be provided with lots of scary procedures and scoring systems and dates. This cannot possibly be so. It was only just a very short while ago that I was a wee fresher, right? You shr...

Table for One: Summer Bounty
http://solitarydiner.blogspot.com/2015/08/summer-bounty.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Thanks for all of the suggestions on what to do with our abundance of CSA vegetables. Tonight we had a CSA feast - grilled zucchini and pattypan squash, roasted beets with balsamic reduction, steamed baby carrots, and a cucumber-yogurt salad (thanks for the idea NOLA. The vegetables were so varied and flavourful that the barbequed sirloin steak seemed like an afterthought. I hate Walmart, but that's a post for another day. Labels: Being a Locavore. Dr Idgie's Marvellous Medicine. A new doctor's grapple with work, life, and everything else. A little sadness, a lot of hope. March 14, 2013. This blog is my slightly egotistical way of keeping track of my first forays into doctoring. This week, I’ve been strongly reminded of an area that’s been my arch nemesis throughout medical school and at times, has held me back in more than a few ways. Deep breath, drum roll, please………. That’s enough of the melancholy, I think! View all posts by doctoridgie ».

Wishful thinking in medical education: GMC guidance- doctors online should reveal their identity
http://wishfulthinkinginmedicaleducation.blogspot.com/2013/03/gmc-guidance-doctors-online-should.html
Wishful thinking in medical education. Wednesday, 27 March 2013. GMC guidance- doctors online should reveal their identity. Je digitale alter ego. Yesterday, March 25th the GMC published the updated version of Good Medical Practice. And for the first time, supplementary explanatory guidance on the use of social media. Is also included. The "doctors and social media" guidance was issued in draft last year, was relatively uncontroversial and didn't provoke a lot of discussion. This is what I wrote. 17 If y...

Poured out before bed. What I Read Wednesday: VITAMEATAVEGA– Now Wait a MINute! 8230;another well known nutter (but we all love her, no? Those of you in the medical field immediately had one or two such token patients pop intrusively into your mind, didn’t you. You clever, judgy providers.). Now, vitamins are – well, vital. They are absolutely necessary for human metabolism – both the equally important catabolic and anabolic arms. But, good nutters of the world, too much. Shocking, and disgusting, I know.

Utopian thoughts on medicine, meded, and policies. Tuesday, 17 May 2016. House MD Redux: Wilson's Heart. Posted on 11:19 am by Medical Utopia. So people who know me also know what a huge fan of the TV Show House MD I used to be. Though I had vicious disagreements with some of the diagnostic trajectories and story lines, in general, the concept of a pained, misunderstood genius appealed to me. I enjoyed watching this misdirected misanthrope and felt his unreal genius attract me. The songs. oh the songs.

Utopian thoughts on medicine, meded, and policies. Tuesday, 17 May 2016. Posted on 1:46 pm by Medical Utopia. Just a couple of work days into the week and it has already turned hostile with work! This week I need to send out these three articles in addition to start properly studying for the steps. This is going to be an unpleasant set of days up ahead of me. I am not even thinking of the post-peer-review work that shall pile up around this time next month! Image Credits: PLoS Blogs. The Last Lazy Weekend.

How did i get this old? Monday, February 22, 2010. Yup, so here I am. Do you want to know what I've been up to for the past year? Yeah, me, too. Time just buzzes past. I have been in my apartment for two years now. Shocking! I still haven't had someone fix the kitchen faucet, which leaks, and I haven't bought radiator covers, or found the right rug to go beside my bed. Posted by medusa at 6:28 AM. Wandering Menace | adventures of a globetrotter
Adventures of a globetrotter. Who I am not. London, trains, and boogers. There is a man across from me on this train with his finger so far up his nose I’m worried he might accidentally nip brain matter. From the looks of him, it wouldn’t be the first time. He clearly thinks lifting the Tom Clancy novel high enough covers this semi-scandalous activity. There’s a wedding ring on his finger. Wait, I bet she knows. Maybe she just doesn’t care. Maybe they do it together. Maybe they were having problems, ...
