A Quick Top 5 | Wanderings and Wonderings

https://wanderingsandwondering.wordpress.com/2016/08/02/a-quick-top-5

Adjusting to the real world one adventure at a time. Let’s Talk About…. A Quick Top 5. August 2, 2016. August 2, 2016. A while ago I was part of a little tag group on my writing blog called ‘Top 5 Wednesday’ (although I did it on Fridays). I thought I might start to dip in and out of it again. Or maybe even every week. They’re all book related, but hey, books are a pretty big part of my life. Today’s topic was actually the first topic for July: Favourite Books Outside Your Comfort Zone. Another favourite...

The Less Than Ideal Side of Dog Sitting | Wanderings and Wonderings

https://wanderingsandwondering.wordpress.com/2016/07/21/the-less-than-ideal-side-of-dog-sitting

Adjusting to the real world one adventure at a time. Let’s Talk About…. The Less Than Ideal Side of Dog Sitting. July 21, 2016. I dogsit. It’s fucking great. It’s like babysitting but with dogs instead of babies, which is obviously far superior, because dogs. Unfortunately, as with every job ever, there are some down sides to dog sitting. Considering I currently have 5 dogs outside in disgrace, now seemed like a good time to discuss them. 1 There’s so much poop. 3 They don’t speak english. Try explaining...

Let’s Talk About: Being Bitsas | Wanderings and Wonderings

Adjusting to the real world one adventure at a time. Let’s Talk About…. Let’s Talk About: Being Bitsas. July 23, 2016. July 23, 2016. I’ve never done a DNA test like this myself, but I’d love to. I know that I have Welsh, English, Scottish, Scandinavian, French, and German ancestors, but I’d love to know where else parts of my DNA have come from. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The Triumphant Return | Wanderings and Wonderings

https://wanderingsandwondering.wordpress.com/2017/01/05/the-triumphant-return

Adjusting to the real world one adventure at a time. Let’s Talk About…. January 5, 2017. It’s Wednesday the 4th of January, and the first day since arriving in the UK that it’s not some form of “New Years Day Observed” bank holiday type thing. In case you’re a bit lost, let me catch you up. After what felt like YEARS of waiting, and the longest 44 hours of travel ever experienced, we arrived in Edinburgh at 17:12 on New Years Eve. Returning to Edinburgh seems like a good time to start this blog back up a...

Rachel Reviews: Prince of Fools | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/02/19/rachel-reviews-prince-of-fools

Rachel Reviews: Prince of Fools. The Red Queen is old but the kings of the Broken Empire fear her as they fear no other. Her grandson Jalan Kendeth is a coward, a cheat and a womaniser; and tenth in line to the throne. While his grandmother shapes the destiny of millions, Prince Jalan pursues his debauched pleasures. Until he gets entangled with Snorri ver Snagason, a huge Norse axe man, and dragged against his will to the icy north. I didn’t intend to read. The Liar’s Key. The second book in this series...

Being Careful – WIPpet Wednesday | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/08/04/being-careful-wippet-wednesday

Being Careful – WIPpet Wednesday. I’m still in a bit of a slump this week, but I’ve managed to produce at least at least a little bit of writing since Monday. Today’s WIPpet math is nice and simple: 4 paragraphs for the 4th of August, because as usual I’m a day late. You can’t trust everyone. Andre certainly doesn’t. I thought you would have learned that by now. Since my mother, you mean? Taura raised her eyebrow. Arrian’s face fell. I didn’t mean that, Taura. You know I didn’t. August 4, 2016. Fill in y...

A NaNo Break-Through | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/11/14/a-nano-break-through

Well, it’s now officially day 14 of NaNo, but I’ve finally had a plotting breakthrough! I worked out that essentially all of my problems could be solved by separated what was originally one plot-line/series-line into two related but chronologically separate plots. Sort of like a prequel and then a main series. Now, this change seems glaringly obvious, but isn’t that always the way? I’m going to blame post-honours brain. I think it’s still a valid excuse. November 14, 2016. In Goals and Updates. You are c...

Overthinking It | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/11/06/overthinking-it

I am a chronic overthinker. I overthink literally everything that could be overthought (even if no one else thinks it’s possible). This year, my overthinking has extended into my writing. In previous years when it comes to NaNo I’ve been able to pump out a lot of words quite quickly. My plots usually flow relatively well (even when they deviate dramatically from their intended course). My characters either do what they’re told or have the decency to do something equally as exciting. November 6, 2016.

Oh July – ROW80 Checkin | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/08/01/oh-july-row80-checkin

Oh July – ROW80 Checkin. Well, July was a clusterfuck of a month. In fact, I can’t quite believe it’s already over considering how solidly unproductive I was. Last Week’s Goals. Just write SOMETHING for. Finish at least one book. Write 6 blog posts. Visit ALL the WIPpeteers and two other blogs. Make a sizeable dent in my monographs/book chapters for my thesis research. Write something for my thesis supervisor (undecided exactly what this something will be). Start typing up my research notes. Write 5 blog...

The Return | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/11/02/the-return

Hello, blogging world! Long time, no interaction. How are you? What’s going on in your life? To those of you who managed to stick around during my absence, thank you. I’ll be trying to get back into regular posting, so hopefully you’ll be rewarded for your perseverance! I say this, but I’m pretty damn competitive, so we’ll see how things go. Are you a NaNo-er? What’s your strategy? Or do you just prefer to write when the mood strikes you, for as long as it strikes you? November 2, 2016. November 2, 2016.

Priorities – ROW80 Check In | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/07/26/priorities-row80-check-in

Priorities – ROW80 Check In. I finally made some substantial progress last week. It probably helped that a) I had a meeting with my thesis supervisor on Tuesday and therefore really felt as though I needed to get my butt into gear so I didn’t sound like an idiot and b) I was home all week in the rain dog sitting and therefore had no social interaction to distract me. Rachel Reviews: The Hourglass Factory | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/02/26/rachel-reviews-the-hourglass-factory

Rachel Reviews: The Hourglass Factory. Well, it’s happened. I’ve returned to Australia. I’m actually writing this from a food court in Adelaide because if I go home I’ll get into bed and if I get into bed I’ll want to sleep and I can’t sleep because it’s only 12:45pm. 1912 and London is in turmoil…. Then Ebony Diamond mysteriously disappears in the middle of a performance, and Frankie is drawn into a world of tricks, society columnists, corset fetishists, suffragettes and circus freaks. How did Ebony...

Rachel Reviews: Plane Edition | Rachel Also Writes

https://rachelalsowrites.wordpress.com/2016/01/22/rachel-reviews-plane-edition

Rachel Reviews: Plane Edition. Last weekend I spent around 22.5 hours on planes as I flew from Adelaide to Edinburgh. It was a VERY productive 22.5 hours. I finished two books and started one during the flights, all of them audiobooks. So, I have two reviews for you today, and we may as well get started! I’m stranded on Mars. I have no way to communicate with Earth. I’m in a Habitat designed to last 31 days. So yeah. I’m screwed. I LOVED the film of. I’m going to be honest here, I was disappointed. For m...

2017: The Year of Reading? I probably say it every year, but this year will be year of reading. I’m determined. So, my reading goal for this year is to read at least 20 books, across at least 6 different genres. I already have a few books I want to read to get me started, which themselves span historical fiction, magical realism (a genre I ALWAYS avoid), and autobiography/non-fiction. March 11, 2017. Wanderings and Sojourns | A collection of poems and short stories inspired by the life and travels of Jim Scott

A collection of poems and short stories inspired by the life and travels of Jim Scott. Born in England and raised on the banks of a river in the Sussex countryside, Jim, from a young age, developed a strong spiritual connection with the natural realm. The problem was that he didn’t understand this until much later in life when this realization provided a catalyst and explanation for his disparate philosophies born from his many travels that didn’t seem to tie-in with much of mainstream thinking. Again th...
