The owl cafe Fukuro no Mise in Tokyo is crowded even on the weekdays, despite its tucked away location. Down a side street across from Tsukishima Station, the owl cafe is given away by the owl curtains and the people milling around, waiting to get in. I couldn’t believe my luck that I lived close enough to bike not only to Tori no Iru Cafe. Cafe), but also to this owl cafe!

Here, now, Japan: September 2011

Here, now, Japan. Sunday, September 25, 2011. Humidity and Getting Rid of It. My mudpuppy/Axolotl is anti-de-humidifiers. Humidity is a serious problem in Japan. Just ask my moldy futon (R.I.P., June 2010). One method for reducing the humidity in apartments are these humidity reducing tubs. They come in about 300mL to 700mL sizes and have a layer of humidity-reducing spheres and a layer where those spheres dissolve and trap the moisture below. Roppongi Hills View and the Sky Aquarium. Do I love aquariums.

Here, now, Japan. Thursday, January 19, 2012. Phantom of the Opera in Tokyo. I missed the all-female. Takarazuka Revue production of Phantom. In Tokyo, but it's not too late for me to see the Dentsu Shiki production of Phantom of the Opera. Of course, this doesn't mean I'll necessarily get to see it, but I'll sure try. The tickets are SOLD OUT. This is the only show on the Dentsu Shiki schedule that seems to be sold out. My decision is made for me. Bummer. Celtic Woman in Tokyo. Sunday, January 15, 2012.
Here, now, Japan: November 2012
http://herenowjapan.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Here, now, Japan. Saturday, November 24, 2012. I can't believe how long it has been since I've written here. My life recently has been occupied by trying to manage work commitments while studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Well, scratch that - I spent more time worrying about the JLPT than studying for it, but there's always next year. And, every now and then I wash my clothes. One other thing which discouraged me from writing was that my Blogger account ran out of space to store pictures.

Here, now, Japan. Monday, June 11, 2012. Kusama Yayoi near Tokyo. I recently went with a friend to see an exhibit by Kusama Yayoi. Like I mentioned before. She's my favorite artist. The entrance had adorable sculptures:. She often uses dots, or as she calls them, "infinity nets" in her artwork. She's most famous for her pumpkin sculptures. Needless to say, I was very moved. Here, now, Japan: October 2011
http://herenowjapan.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Here, now, Japan. Tuesday, October 18, 2011. I had the opportunity recently to visit Nagoya Castle. Embarrassingly enough, I spent about two months studying in Japan only about 20 minutes away from the castle by train about two years ago, but I never actually took the time to visit the castle. If you look closely at the picture of the castle, you can see golden "shachi," pictures above as well, which are "mythcial orca whales" that are supposed to ward off fires. Here, now, Japan: Sakura and Mando Matsuri Weekend
http://herenowjapan.blogspot.com/2012/05/sakura-and-mando-matsuri-weekend.html
Here, now, Japan. Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Sakura and Mando Matsuri Weekend. The sakura (cherry blossoms) have already fallen, but they were beautiful! I went with some friends to a local festival called the Mando Matsuri. Food stalls at the shrine. I ate two chocolate bananas that day. No regrets. At the end of the day, the children and some adults carried those poles with flowers on them. The cherry trees, just about in full bloom, I think. Tons and tons of carp streamers! In celebration of Children's Day.
Here, now, Japan: Even More Doodles
http://herenowjapan.blogspot.com/2012/05/even-more-doodles.html
Here, now, Japan. Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Getting to sort of the bottom-of-the-barrel sketches, but as I like to fancy that someone somewhere (the "someone" being family members and "somewhere" being America) will like them :). More sea-creatures and birds. I will never tire of these sorts of things. Sheep, for some reason. Inspired by the video game Portal. I adore that game. Caterpillars are too cute. Here, now, Japan: March 2012
http://herenowjapan.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Here, now, Japan. Friday, March 30, 2012. We went on a pilgrimage! It was a pilgrimage dedicated to the seven Buddhist gods of good luck. We all gathered at the temple, did some exercises. And then headed off. Over 11 kilometers of hiking through the city in the cold - I enjoyed every minute of it. At the end, pork broth soup, souvenirs, and congratulations awaited us. And, thanks to the pilgrimage, I now have a handtowel with Ebisu on it. You remember Ebisu. Tokyo Sky Tree and Asakusa. A Walk in the Park.
Here, now, Japan: Solar Eclipse
http://herenowjapan.blogspot.com/2012/05/solar-eclipse.html
Here, now, Japan. Monday, May 21, 2012. Today there was a solar eclipse that could be seen from Japan. Be seen from Japan. This does not mean that I saw it. I woke up bright and early in order to catch it. A little before the scheduled time, I walked outside. It was a beautiful day already, and the sun was right at my front door. I waited a few minutes. As time passed, the sky got slightly darker. But, it was only as if some light clouds had passed in front of the sun. I have two regrets concerning this ...

The Unexpectedly Awesome Gnomes of Wrocław Poland. August 4, 2015. It came to us, like so many ideas in our lives, in a café. Have Wanderlodge…will travel! June 19, 2015. June 20, 2015. Portland A Trip To Catch Up With Friends. Photo explosion to follow. I’ve really been looking forward to our visit to Portland. I visited in the early 1990’s when I lived in Olympia, WA and I was excited to see what changes have happened. This is Russ’ first visit.
