If you can experience it, it is not you therefore discard it. If you can know it, it is not you therefore discard it. You’ve got another think coming.

Derek's Dharma Blog. A blog about meditation, Dharma and activism. Cecilie Kwiat’s Gifts. My first meditation teacher, Cecilie Kwiat, passed away yesterday. A few of us gathered to share stories of her joy and compassion and share prayers. She was a living example of the exuberance and drive to awaken and help others awaken. Of the many teachings she gave, one line stands out as so so helpful. The line is: ‘He has given so fully of himself, there is no place that he is not.'”. February 16, 2014. Cecilie ...

Sympathetic Joy « Derek's Dharma Blog

Derek's Dharma Blog. A blog about meditation, Dharma and activism. Sometimes when you’re watching a sporting event, or sitting in close with a group of musicians playing some good tunes, you feel this happiness, this joy at someone else’s accomplishments they are just so darn good at what they do and you feel uplifted to notice it, to experience it–to feeeel it. Sometimes you feet it more, sometimes less: but there is this wonderful feeling of second-hand joy. Why are we so moved? As one journalist wrote...

Friendliness « Derek's Dharma Blog
https://dereksdharma.wordpress.com/friendliness
Derek's Dharma Blog. A blog about meditation, Dharma and activism. The biggest problem we Westerners have when we approach a Buddhist concept like. Loving-kindness , is that we basically only have three concepts of love : (1) intense romantic love; (2) family love; or, alternately, if we are being very spiritual, (3) noble saintly love for all our fellow men and women Jesus-type love, or Ghandi-type love, which of course we think is way out of reach for lowly mortals like us. Think ‘friendly and warm’.
