Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! Rainbow raspberry kiss quilt top. August 17, 2016. After much indecision, here’s what I came up with! Still a rainbow, but not as linear as my initial arrangement. I added more warm blocks to better balance out the cools, and I mixed the blocks up a bit so the color transitions wouldn’t be too harsh. If I’m honest, I’m not 100% happy with it, but I am NOT ripping out any seams at this point! I may have to use the huge table at Gather Here.

Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! On my bookshelf: The Art of Manipulating Fabric by Colette Wolff. May 2, 2015. Today I’d like to share one of my absolute favorite sewing books:. The Art of Manipulating Fabric. Colette begins the preface of the book with this simple introduction:. 8220;This is a book of ideas about sewing cloth.”. I began to drag other people into the meetings, merely for the pleasure of watching their faces as she pulled out some samples. At one point som...

Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! Pattern drafting: first attempt at skirt sloper. March 23, 2014. My adventures in pattern drafting are in full swing over here! This weekend I drafted an initial skirt sloper using the same book I used for my bodice sloper. Like last time, I’ve included two side views below: one in my normal standing posture, and one with my arms out of the way so you can see the side seams. Aren’t these muslin shots so glamorous? So much to learn! 2 – I ...

2 New Tiny World Map Pillow Cases. Mid month into the advent posting self-challenge and I am pretty satisfied that I only missed 2 out of 15 posts. 9 more to go before Christmas and then holidays! Now back to the point of this post: I love this world map fabric I use for making the world map bags on Etsy. I already made myself a world map bag and wanted to make pillowcases from it for such a long time I almost forgot about it. I used the same technique I explained in the 5 minute pillowcase tutorial.

Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! On the road again: a short blogging break. May 11, 2015. I just wanted to pop in and let you know that I’ll be taking a short break from sewing and blogging for a week or two. My machines and fabric are currently packed up in anticipation of an upcoming apartment move. Ah, moving. Is there anything more stressful and exhausting? Despite the chaos, I’ve been doing my best to keep up my MMM’15 pledge. Packing and moving are not exactly conducive ...

Sewing my way to a handmade home. Tulip Quilt pattern (free! My pledge for Me-Made-May ’15: wear whatever the heck I want! April 23, 2015. Breaking news: I’ve decided to join in the fun and participate in Me-Made-May ’15. It took me a while to decide if I was going to pledge or not, mostly because I really dislike any rules or deadlines imposed on my sewing. I find that sewing-related obligations suck all the fun right out of my hobby, and who wants that? Here’s my pledge:. Not too bad, right? The realit...

Pattern Drafting: How to draft a leg of mutton sleeve. I noticed some time ago that drawing – even if it’s a 5 minute sketch – really helps me understand the construction details of a garment or a pattern. It also helps me remember more. In a way, for pattern drafting, sketching is like note-taking. Today, I wanted to share this interesting type of sleeve: the leg of mutton sleeve. That name! I talked about this book before in these posts on the how to use flat pattern making to draft a bodice front.
