Friday, September 26, 2014. Struggling Along With Blurbs. For those of you who've been on my fanpage lately you know I've had major issues with writing a blurb for Lineage - book 2 of The Djenrye Chronicles. I know, you think what's so hard about writing a blurb? Actually in a lot of ways, it's as difficult as writing a synopsis or query letter. Now, I know I should be able to do this with my eyes closed, right? So, onto fixing the marks.3 days later I'm still pulling my hair out! In the mean time, I did...

Lisa's Djen Den: Whose Point Of View am I in - Mine Or My Character's

Friday, July 24, 2015. Whose Point Of View am I in - Mine Or My Character's. A subject I haven't posted about came to my attention while working with one of my student writers. And it's a good one to discuss - Author Intrusion. I can understand where there would be confusion as to when you're in your character's POV or when you're in your own. But there is a difference. 1 Author intrusion can be subtle or very noticable. Are they a botanist? Did they research this before going there? 2 Author word choices.

Lisa's Djen Den: April 2015

Friday, April 24, 2015. There Will Be Disappointment. Usually when you have accomplished publishing your baby, you experience a high like you never have before. Or will again. The euphoric feeling is amazing on so many levels! And each time after that, you will be excited and look. Toward the prospect of new fans, and more writing. I guess that's par for the course. Life had it's ups and downs, even in the writing world. The trick is, learning to get past it. On Monday, I was completely exhausted and end...

Lisa's Djen Den: March 2015
http://www.lisafender.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 27, 2015. Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses. We all know we have them right? We excel in certain areas in our lives and there are issues that remind us we are a work in progress. Hey, we're only human. But to acknowledge that we need to work on things is the first step. And where we need to keep our egos in check. Nobody's perfect. Lately, I have been reminded where my weaknesses lie and I plan to put my energy toward conquering them. This goes for writing as well. What really concerns me ...

Lisa's Djen Den: Is There Enough White On The Page
http://www.lisafender.com/2015/07/is-there-enough-white-on-page.html
Friday, July 10, 2015. Is There Enough White On The Page. If you're a new writer you're probably wondering what I mean by the title. No it doesn't mean no words, it means are you splitting up your work into paragraphs, or are you continuously writing, so that is all you see is words on the entire page. The white is in between and breaks up the long, drawn out reading. When you change subjects :. Now I think some of you would have made this one big paragraph. It seems like it is the same subject, but ...

http://www.lisafender.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 28, 2014. Happy 4 day weekend all! At least I hope all of you are off for the weekend. When I had a "real" job, I didn't have this weekend off so if you're working I can relate. Well, if it's any consolation, you can still shop, that is if you do it on line. I hope that all of you enjoyed Thanksgiving and now look forward to Christmas or Hanukkah and plan to spend it surrounded by family and friends. I'll see you back here next week! And don't forget my new blog at Djenworld. I hope your...

Lisa's Djen Den: February 2015
http://www.lisafender.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 27, 2015. Sometimes Subtlety Is The Best Policy. As Writers we all strive for richness in our manuscripts. We long for the reader to "get" what our characters are saying, without actually saying it. To add to their personalities without spelling it all out in dialog. But we tend to listen to our teachers and coaches how we need to explain all through the dialog of our characters. Imagination and is boring. Try to really "see" the relationship between two of your characters, maybe two bes...

Friday, May 29, 2015. Another great conference in the bag, and moving forward. ComicCon here in Denver was amazing and exhausting at the same time, but well worth it! I feel very fortunate to have been a part of ComicCon and look forward to next year! I meet with the artist for the cover next Tuesday. I'm excited to see how it's coming along. I'm sure Karla is doing a fantastic job. So it is moving and will be ready before you know it! Now onto my thoughts for this week in creative writing. Last night wh...
