WITS CLINICAL RESEARCH is headed by Professor Lesley Burgess who has been involved in clinical trials since 1992 and has conducted over 400 studies to date. She oversees all administrative duties, supervises ongoing projects and is also involved in training of GCP and Quality Assurance at Wits Health Consortium.

TREAD is a dedicated trial unit, fully equipped to perform clinical trials. Equipment and facilities include the following:. ECG, stress ECG (treadmill and bicycle), carotid ultrasound, echocardiography. Full emergency trolley (including defibrillator), separate temperature-controlled drug storage room, freezers (-20 C; -40 C; -70 C), centrifuges (ambient and 4 C), separate monitors’ room for monitoring and adequate secure storage for site files.
