Thursday, November 27, 2014. Monday, November 24, 2014. A Season for Sage. Sage is my favorite garden perennial. I have 4 or 5 or them- Salvia officinalis. Says let it all be. It's good for the plants and the animals. So now I enjoy the perennial beds year-round, and especially in fall before the snow covers it all in white. Monday, October 20, 2014. I raked lots of oak leaves (and tons of acorns) today, under a sunny, blue sky, before a stretch of rain sets in tomorrow. Kodi helped, sort of. Saturday, October 18, 2014. We planted our garlic today: 500 cloves from this year's July harvest. Every year my Dad prepares the garden for the annual planting. He discs up a new plot roughly 4 feet by 50 feet. Saturday, August 23, 2014. Spending a few days in the Champlain Valley with family, which always includes a hike up Mt. Philo. In Charlotte, VT. Although not quite 1000' in elevation, the mountain offers great views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains beyond. Although yesterday morning when we hiked it was misting and socked in. This kept our attention on small things, up close. Two favorite sightings: red efts and millipedes, both favor damp days to move about and forage. A Big Black Horse Fly.
