Mellow Yellow Westfield - The Bodywork
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Build-bodywork.html
The Body makes the car look like something, been waiting for ages to get to this stage. This is one of the major milestones in my build (the other being the engine). Fitting the bodywork, well I haven't actually fitted, more like placed it over the chassis for now as it was getting to the end of the day. I had to sand down a few bumps and moulding marks so they fitted smoothly but it wasn't too bad. Once one, it looked great and a lot more rigid too. I can now get on with fitting the scuttle, lights etc ...

Mellow Yellow Westfield - Suspension
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Build-sva.html
Biting fingernails time, hopefully I will list all the things I did for the SVA and the test itself. The SVA (or Single Vehicle Approval) is a test that all kitcars that have been constructed and are to be registered on the UK roads have to pass so mine is no exception. I have tried to make this as informative as possible so that anybody reading this can get some sort of heads up to enable them to pass the sva too. Ah, the front suspension, a minefield for the SVA tester. 4) Some brake lines come with a ...

Mellow Yellow Westfield - The Start
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Build-start.html
This bit is about Choosing, ordering and picking up my kit. Well I've owned 2 Westfield's in the past and enjoyed them both in varying degrees. The first, a White 1990 SE with Ford 1700 Crossflow, twin 40 webers, clamshell wings in was my first complete build. Thoroughly enjoyed building it but would have liked a better engine. Sold that one in 1993 as I needed the money. This was my 2nd Westfield SE. November 2nd, I finally ordered a Seiw Starter kit with the following:. Powdercoated alloy panels, scutt...

Mellow Yellow Westfield - Interior
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Build-interior.html
This is for the nice bits inside, or lack of them as the case may be. The seats were the first to get the treatment, well they are the only thing I have of the interior so far so I guess it's fair. First pic showing the seat frame, very sturdy despite what others have said. Lots of nuts and bolts with them so I had to work out myself how to put them together. Lined up the seat with the frame trying to make it as level as possible but nothing is symmetrical so this was hard. Firstly to prevent any damage,...

Mellow Yellow Westfield - Transmission
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Build-transmission.html
The Gearbox, Diff and anything else in-between is in this section. Finally got my Diff sorted, I managed to swap with one of the WSCC forum members (Thanks Animal). He had a 3.92 that I wanted and I had a 3.62 he wanted so job sorted. It took perishing ages to clean up with a wire brush and sand paper, lots of nooks and crannies but managed it in the end. First pic is the Diff all painted up and ready to install, Pics 2 and 3 show the Diff installed. Fitted the propshaft after waiting for the bolts to co...

Mellow Yellow Westfield - Suspension
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Build-suspension.html
These are the springy bits. One on each corner easy eh! I needed a break from Rivets so I decided to have a look at the suspension which was much more exciting. I then installed the AVO shocks and springs and viola, back suspension, easy peasy. Will install the hubs later because I want to see what the front end looks like now. The order this fits in is (see pics). 35 Bolt small washer mounting wishbone small washer headlamp bracket small washer bellcrank and into threaded spindle. Messed about with the ...

Mellow Yellow Westfield - Electrics
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Build-electrics.html
This is the bit I enjoy most. Plenty of fuses to hand so here we go. Well my wiring loom has finally come so after a slight respite, I'm off again building. I decided to go for the Premier Wiring loom which is not only a bit cheaper than the Westfield item, but it also gives you a bit more scope to be a bit creative (i.e. Run the wires where YOU want them to go rather than be restricted). As previously mentioned in Chassis. I wanted to fusebox under the dash so the scuttle base was nice and clear from cl...

Mellow Yellow Westfield - My Tips
http://mellowyellow.westfield-world.com/Tips.html
Here I will share some of the tips I come across during the build. Keep your work area clean and tidy. Apart from being able to find things easier, it a safety thing too. Don't forget, time spent in hospital is less time spent in the garage. Take 5 mins at the end of the day to tidy up and put tool away, it helps tremendously. When tightening up nuts and bolts to specific torques, it's hard to remember which ones you've done and which you. When fitting the brake pipes, it helps if the actual connectors s...
