News, opinion, and analysis on the San Diego Padres (and the rest of baseball). Laquo; Kouzmanoff’s fielding. Hoyer in; Fuson out. It’s Jed Hoyer. Posted October 26, 2009 by Myron in Padres. It looks like the Padres are going to announce Jed Hoyer. Soon to be) former Red Sox Assistant General Manager, as the new GM later today. Stats, but wants as much information that’s attainable before making any decision. What I also like about the move is that it shows Jeff Moorad is going to go out and get what he ...

News, opinion, and analysis on the San Diego Padres (and the rest of baseball). Laquo; Hoyer in; Fuson out. No Gold Glove for Kevin Kouzmanoff. More data, please. Posted November 9, 2009 by Myron in analysis. With the offseason upon us, there is going to be a lot of player-valuation analysis for potential free agent signings, trades, and other roster moves. However, I don’t think there’s any reason to believe he. A 6 WAR player. 2 Regression It’s a good idea to assume that every time a player has a great...

News, opinion, and analysis on the San Diego Padres (and the rest of baseball). Laquo; Should the Padres trade Kevin Kouzmanoff? Posted November 20, 2009 by Myron in blogging. As for this place, I’m going to keep it around for more random Padres stuff, and maybe some personal notes here and there. No point in shutting it down, as I’ve apparently shown a propensity for changing my mind in the past : ) Anyway, sorry for any inconvenience, and thanks for following me all around the internet. Padres Trail: Bludgeoning
http://padrestrail.blogspot.com/2012/08/bludgeoning.html
Saturday, August 18, 2012. There had been a flicker of hope, in some corners, about the Padres improved play since the All-Star break. In fact, since June 12th they had been the best team in the NL West - a game better than San Francisco. And they had gone into Pittsburgh, taken 2 of 3 from the Wild Card contenders, then taken the first game of a 4-game set in Atlanta, the Wild Card leaders. Wells was designated for assignment on 3 August. Since that date Ohlendorf's been really bad - 3 total starts,...

Padres Trail: April 2012
http://padrestrail.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 27, 2012. Random Thoughts on Game 20. In my fourth Padres game of the year, I again watched the team win 2-1 with 2 runs in the eighth inning. Some random thoughts on the evening:. 2 With Edinson Volquez. Squaring off against Edwin Jackson. Then swung at 3 pitches and sat down. After an intentional walk to Cameron Maybin. You got to get a run home with second and third and nobody out. Just got to. Putting a ball into play would likely have netted at least one run unless it was a pop...Who d...

Padres Trail: January 2012
http://padrestrail.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 18, 2012. And Then There Were Two. Padres had 11 arbitration-eligible players unsigned on Monday. As of Tuesday, all but 2 are signed. Only Clayton Richard and Dustin Moseley remain. If nothing else, the good news is Padres payroll is headed up. They had the third-lowest payroll on Opening Day 2011 and likely will be in the bottom quarter of all teams this season. They still have a ways to go to be competitive, but at least the team is trending in the right direction. Links to this post.
