Just thought I’d wish anyone who has time to read my blog a Happy Christmas! So there we go, another year gone. Next year should be fun as I’m planning on doing a patch year list with the patch being Radipole Lake! I’ll even twitch a Treecreeper or Coal Tit. I’ll leave you with a pic of a Bearded Tit I took last week. Happy new year as well! TodayR...

A Welsh Birder in Dorset: They've all come at once!
http://welshbirderindorset.blogspot.com/2013/11/theyve-all-come-at-once.html
A bit of birding and a bit of ringing in and around everyones favourite holiday destination. Weymouth! Saturday, 23 November 2013. They've all come at once! Mature Yellow-legged Gulls are getting a bit like buses. In four years of gull gauping at Radipole I’ve only ever seen a couple of ‘mature’ birds, as in ones which are older than juv/1. Winter. This week, Radipole has had a 3. Winter, 2 sub adults and an adult! First a bird from Thursday. And a wing shot. This is a nice sharp shot of my house with a ...

A Welsh Birder in Dorset: Gulls again...
http://welshbirderindorset.blogspot.com/2013/11/gulls-again.html
A bit of birding and a bit of ringing in and around everyones favourite holiday destination. Weymouth! Tuesday, 19 November 2013. After a brief interlude of passerine ringing, it’s back to gulls. And judging by the success (or lack of it) of my last Clouds Hill session, this blog might resort back to pictures of Med Gulls and ring reading for the foreseeable future. Not trying to put you off or anything. Think back to my deep state of confusion regarding a 3. I’ve had over 500 in the past do this&#...

A Welsh Birder in Dorset: Gulls, gulls, gulls...
http://welshbirderindorset.blogspot.com/2014/02/gulls-gulls-gulls.html
A bit of birding and a bit of ringing in and around everyones favourite holiday destination. Weymouth! Saturday, 8 February 2014. Gulls, gulls, gulls. Really should apologies for leaving you so long with that last post about Herring Gull races. It really was quite cruel. My offering this time is again sadly gulls but more interesting ones you’ll be pleased to hear! Since well before Christmas, an adult Glaucous Gull has been wandering up and down Chesil beach and has completely ignored Radipole until now!

A Welsh Birder in Dorset: December 2012
http://welshbirderindorset.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
A bit of birding and a bit of ringing in and around everyones favourite holiday destination. Weymouth! Monday, 10 December 2012. Better late than never. Cast your minds back to October 2011 where you may recall me mentioning a Lesser Redpoll I trapped at Clouds Hill which was already ringed? OK, it’s a while ago so perhaps not but a few days ago I finally found out it origins! I captured it on the 13. Think this is the bird? Or at least it’s the photo I used in the blog post back last year. Yesterday I w...

A Welsh Birder in Dorset: April 2013
http://welshbirderindorset.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
A bit of birding and a bit of ringing in and around everyones favourite holiday destination. Weymouth! Monday, 29 April 2013. If it's iffy, it's just a Chiffy! It was ringed and I quickly took a wing formula from it which came out as wing point = P4, 2. Primary = 6/7, emargination on P6. The interesting bit is the 2 = 6/7, which means that the second primary on a closed wing fell between the 6. Primary feather. Common Chiffchaff would normally come out as 2 = 8 or 8/9, 9 and sometime 9/10. Head shot show...
