This Workforce Development Center for Surry Community College was a collaborative project with Surry County, The Town of Elkin and Surry Community College. The project consisted of renovating 23,000 SF of a former grocery store into classrooms, offices, industrial technology studios and a GED training center. Mountain Retreat in the Works. Commercial and Public Architecture. The Liberty is currently under renovation to turn the former tobacco warehouse and wholesale grocery distribution center into a reception hall, microbrewery, restaurant and wine shop. The Liberty Tobacco Warehouse is a 30,000 SF brick structure with free spanning 100-foot heavy timber trusses and heart pine floors. It was constructed around 1923 and is a contributing structure to the Downtown Elkin Historic District. Mountain Retreat in the Works.
