Hangin’ from the Chandeliers. June 23, 2012. In Labor and Birth. I love this picture! It represents the teamwork that is involved in giving birth to a baby, especially when the birth is hard. Mom, Dad, doula, midwife, and baby working together. I think it’s a great shot for people to see the tools available at a home birth. The IV hanging from the chandelier pretty much sums it up! Her amazing doula, Katherine Stanglin. We encourage your comments below! Comments… read them below or add one. If we go for ...

Knit like a hippie midwife
http://www.theamericanmidwife.com/knitting/knit-midwife
Knit like a hippie midwife. February 22, 2012. I’ve finally learned how to knit, so I guess now I am a REAL midwife! I think I will fit in better at all of the midwife conferences. It’s true-I’m not kidding. Many midwives knit during classes at conferences and while women are in labor. I think it’s a great skill to have. It gives us midwives something to do with our hands while we are “patiently waiting” for someone to dilate! First, learn how to cast on, knit, and cast off or bind off. The picture below...

15 Good Reasons to Choose a Midwife. May 14, 2014. With the popularity of homebirths and natural childbirth on the rise, so too is the number of midwives delivering babies. Recent studies show midwives are delivering 8.1 percent of the country’s babies — and 12.1 percent of vaginal births, or about one of every eight deliveries — an all-time high, according to statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Women who received midwife-only care were generally happier. Although t...

West Houston Birth Center

West Houston Birth Center. June 1, 2012. I am so excited to announce the “birth” of West Houston Birth Center. We are located at 11321 Richmond Avenue, only 1 mile from West Houston Medical Center and 1 mile off of the Beltway. I think a lot of people (speedsters) will love the location because you can zip on down the beltway and jump off on Richmond and you’re there! I may have been in Houston for only a little more than a year now, but hey I have learned quickly that it’s all about TRAFFIC here! Subscr...
