雙連埤的美麗與悲哀- - - 由搶救雙連埤的水草籲多營造生態水池. 一 野菱 Trapa bispinosa Roxb. var. innumai Makano 野菱為稀有浮葉植物，是雙連埤特有植物之一，主要分布於水域，經怪手整地後，原本威脅它生存的白花穗蓴 Cabomba caroliniana A. Gray 被剷除，但野菱仍是回復不易，原因有三，一是野菱有效種子被怪手埋入土堤中難以萌芽 其次湖底腐植質被攪動，在湖裡發酵，混濁水域，不利野菱成長 三則是野菱幼苗被放養的草魚咬食。 野菱族群本來就少，經此情況所剩無幾，其它所伴生的稀有食蟲性沈水植物如黃花狸藻 Utricularia aurea Lour. 、絲葉狸藻 U. gibba L. ，更淪為地主放養鵝、綠頭鴨之佳餚。 二 蓴菜 Brasenia schreberi Gmel. 人稱蓴菜為 水凍 ，是台灣稀有的浮葉植物，二十年前在雙連埤長滿整個埤面，今日卻稀少難見，附近的人看到蓴菜回復生長，馬上摘回種植，沒被摘植的也是魚、鵝、鴨喜歡的食草。 4 最奇特的是大頭茶 Cordonia axillaris Roxb. 馬來刺子莞為主的莎草科挺水植物挺立其上，以腎蕨為主的蕨類植物，另有大族群的小葉海金莎，宜蘭人稱 珍東毛仔 ， 此外值得一提的是台灣、宜蘭、雙連埤的分株假子箕蕨、日月潭藺、華克拉莎、馬來刺子莞、毛蕨族群，其在雙連埤浮島生長環境已特有化，他處不易茁生。 2001年11月，地主發聲希望關心雙連埤的人，快把雙連埤的野生動植物限期移走，他用怪手清除浮島生態、噴灑幾十加侖殺草劑於湖域周邊、施放大量草魚破壞棲地環境，關心者除了嘆氣卻也無可奈何，地主看準中華民國沒有濕地環境保育的法令規章，從中央到地方都無法制止他的整地行為， 行政 、 法令 無能之狀況下，保育團體的撲火行為也終告失敗，唯有懇求地方人士就地關懷。 91年4月10日、11日、5月7日經過宜蘭社區大學與荒野宜蘭分會舉辦三次 雙連埤生態區的三贏思維 公共論談 針對雙連埤濕地議題進行開放性討論，邀請地主、縣政府、農委會、老師、學員和一般民眾發表意見，提出看法，希望藉由群體的參與，激起大家關心雙連埤遭濫挖的問題。
