From Polly's Pen: Hot Slaw, Cool Ice
http://frompollyspen.blogspot.com/2009/09/hot-slaw-cool-ice.html
Thursday, September 24, 2009. Hot Slaw, Cool Ice. Okay, do these things only happen to ME? And apparently my son-in-law Bruce? Once upon a time when my daughter and her husband were here for a visit, I bought some bar-b- que. At a local place with a unique side dish, hot slaw. Not temperature hot, but spicy hot. I personally have never tasted it but it has quite a following as this story bears out. Who wants rotten hot slaw? This is the day BEFORE the picnic. Uh-oh. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Wednesday, August 26, 2009. My precious Uncle Roscoe has cancer. There, I've said the ugly word. He is in the ICU of the hospital in a neighboring county where he lives. Alone now. Aunt Peggy died, gosh, I don't remember, was it 2 years ago, 3? This is a picture of Uncle Roscoe with his remaining siblings. My Mom is on the left in the picture and Aunt Gabe is on the right. Birthday party. He wasn't feeling great but nevertheless made the effort for her. Links to this post. Monday, August 24, 2009. Speak ...

From Polly's Pen: Once I Had A Doctor
http://frompollyspen.blogspot.com/2009/09/once-i-had-doctor.html
Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Once I Had A Doctor. Well, there he is folks. The Doctor. Then, lo and behold, the young Dr. Crouch and his pretty wife and baby up and move to Florida (I'm sure now it was to get away from me). No problem. He was in a group of family physicians so all I had to do was pick one. Problem. So which one? He's been with me through back surgeries, hypertension medication adjustments, pap smears and confessions. My all-around great doctor. He has deserted me! So this time around, af...

Sunday, November 30, 2008. Thanksgiving and Getting 2008. My housekeeper came on Tuesday and helped get out the linens and set the table. Tasted so good. The kids were in rare form, too. Adorable little tikes, they are! April and I wore cute little Thanksgiving aprons (because Barbie wouldn't wear hers, I did.) David did the lifting and even mashed the potatoes for us! 160; Barbie cleaned and cleaned in the kitchen, she is a whizz at that, for sure. . Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Frugal Family of Five.

From Polly's Pen: Ah, October !
http://frompollyspen.blogspot.com/2009/09/ah-october-i-have-always-loved-it-and.html
Wednesday, September 30, 2009. I have always loved it and am glad it is upon us even though it is a harbinger of winter (which I detest). An action-packed month for me, I work very little during the month. October starts with my Tristin becoming an official "Tiger Cub". How exciting for him and isn't he a doll! The trip to the Outer Banks with Kristin is coming up next week, then Tristin's birthday party at a local aquatics center, the annual "Girls Trip", and finally, Halloween (my favorite holiday!

Friday, January 30, 2009. Another day has passed with so many folks still out of electricity and water. I do know how blessed I am. Frank came up with the bright idea to make hot coffee for them, so we set up a little table with all the fixin's and offered everyone coffee. It wasn't much, but at least it made us feel like we were doing our little bit to help. My mother still has power as it turns out, she is on the same "grid" as our local hospital! Where is global warming? Links to this post. We had war...

From Polly's Pen: Girl's Trip Shirts
http://frompollyspen.blogspot.com/2009/09/girl-trip-shirts.html
Thursday, September 17, 2009. Excitement has been mounting as I've waited with great anticipation for this year's edition of our annual Girl's Trip t-shirt to arrive. It gets a little harder each year to design something new and different in a different color than we've ever had but they are HERE. This 2006 shirt in orange quoted a popular saying of that year What happens on the Girls Trip in Brown County stays in Brown County and was one of the more popular ones :). Okay, just a teaser above!

Sunday, May 31, 2009. After our breakfast we headed to Lichtenstein. I just like the sign above at the parking lot. The oddest things seemed to interest me. This view from the castle grounds down onto the village was breathtaking. I could stand there and watch for hours. I still think of the construction of castles like this and marvel at how many man-hours it must have taken to design and build such a magnificent structure. We were able to find a cafe at the bottom, also, where we had a nice lunch befor...

From Polly's Pen: Working on Sunday
http://frompollyspen.blogspot.com/2009/09/working-on-sunday.html
Sunday, September 20, 2009. I know it's Sunday, but it's a "work" Sunday and here I am at the funeral home again. This evening we are having a visitation for Art Ward whose funeral will be tomorrow at 10:00 am at our local United Methodist Church. I have known Art's wife Glynn since I moved to Hopkinsville. 10 years ago so feel much more of an attachment to this family than to most. She's a COOL girl! Mine are purple and pink and the other is orange and green. I told her she was not charging enough m...
