Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life. Log for June 25, 2015. The conditions on Stellwagen Bank could not be beat with light winds, catspaw seas, and plenty of sunshine. We started the day with Nile and Pitcher who looked to be doing some subsurface feeding. This is a very small whale, especially after seeing big Nile but we got some excellent looks at this whale but it ended up taking very long dives and travelling long distances on each surfacing. We cruised the entirety of the northwest corner today seeing only birds – still a good sign for the weeks to come – there were mainly gulls but I did spot at least one Northern Gannet in the mix. Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life. 2013 Sightings September 29. This morning on the Cetacea. We went north to Scantum Basin (past Cape Ann and in New Hampshire state waters). There was a good amount of patchy fog limiting our visibility for a lot of the trip, but it cleared up toward the end. The "Whale Tale" is a 2007 Boston Whaler 320 Outrage. This is a 32 foot sport fishing boat, center console, with a head (but no cabin). It is approved for 14 passengers. The twin 275hp four-stroke Mercruiser outboard motors are surprisingly quiet and smooth. Evening harbor cruises take place at 6mph maximum speed. Day trips to Stellwagen Bank. Fishing and/or whale watching. Or Provincetown typically take place at about 25mph. (The top speed is about 44mph.) The boat has twin 150 gallon fuel tanks.
