Tomski.com – Tom Loosemore's personal blog. Infrequent whimsy. Views here are mine and mine alone. Ansel Adams on digital photography, from 1983. December 30, 2012. Of Ansel Adams photographs is on at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich until April 28. We duly took our eldest, who likes to take the odd photo. Sadly, the exhibition was heaving. There was neither space nor time to dwell. So we escaped into the side room showing a 1983 BBC television interview. There’s a lesson in there somewhere.

In praise of Malcolm Barnsley | Tomski.com - Tom Loosemore's personal blog

Tomski.com – Tom Loosemore's personal blog. Infrequent whimsy. Views here are mine and mine alone. In praise of Malcolm Barnsley. December 2, 2012. A decade ago I read an article. About two men setting out to break the outright world speed sailing record – then just over 45 knots. They were proposing to build a radical new kind of sailing boat. There were pictures; a remote controlled scale model, clearly sailing at high speed. To a new world record of over 65 knots. You should read Paul’s blog. But I wa...

Eclectica: Cameron makes UK an ISIS target
http://addiator.blogspot.com/2014/09/cameron-makes-uk-isis-target.html
No man but a blockhead ever wrote but for money. Dr. Samuel Johnson. Cameron makes UK an ISIS target. Interesting to see the disinformation campaign that lead up to the House of Commons vote to bomb. Then the failure to learn from experience. 1 Intervening in Iraq = disaster. 2 Intervening in Afghanistan = disaster. 3 Intervening in Libya = disaster. Then claiming there is no alternative. Then deciding to train and arm terrorist groups in Syria. None of the reasons that the government and their fellow tr...

Eclectica: ISIS v Rotherham
http://addiator.blogspot.com/2014/08/isis-v-rotherham.html
No man but a blockhead ever wrote but for money. Dr. Samuel Johnson. The BBC has been doing its best to promote the government line by making it a lead story and announcing ISIS activities in that tone of shock-horror that some of their people do so well. However, there are a few problems with the government's cunning plan. 1 Nobody here cares about headless Americans. 2 If we bomb ISIS that will make it more likely they will attack us, not less. 1 The British public really does care about Rotherham.

Eclectica: The Mincing Machine - Fort Douaumont, Verdun
http://addiator.blogspot.com/2009/08/mincing-machine-fort-douaumont-verdun.html
No man but a blockhead ever wrote but for money. Dr. Samuel Johnson. The Mincing Machine - Fort Douaumont, Verdun. In 1916 over 250,000 French and German soldiers were killed in the Battle of Verdun. A further half a million were wounded. In term of casualties it was one of the worse battles in human history. Some of the worse fighting was around the French fort at Douamont. Fort Douaumont was one of a number of forts built [according to the Sere de Riveres system. The entrance to the fort. Whilst the Ge...

Eclectica: Buying tyres online
http://addiator.blogspot.com/2015/01/buying-tyres-online.html
No man but a blockhead ever wrote but for money. Dr. Samuel Johnson. I was never happy with the tyre buying process in the UK. After I had bought a tyre I always felt that I had been hornswoggled. The problem was poor information. To make a good decision a buyer needed information on tyre quality and comparative information on a range of tyres. The wet grip scale runs from A to G and each point represents 3 metres of stopping distance. The difference between a tyre rated A and one rated D is 9 metres...

My post in September 2009. Compare this with what happened to Joe Lee, who says,. Joe was smarter than me, though. When Joe got the car back, he found the engine oil was 3cm above the maximum level.
