All posts by acstratten. Artist and Art Educator. October 28, 2016. A great classroom management strategy shared by way of guest author, Jean-Marie. Thanks for passing this on! When visiting Miss Kromel, one of our outstanding new art teachers, Jean-Marie observed:. One table group was chosen to monitor the “Loud-O-Meter.” (Students at that table can move the Loud-O-Meter magnet up the scale as they see fit.). Thanks Jean-Marie, and thanks Miss Kromel for sharing your great ideas with us! October 19, 2016.
Art and Education are Hard | WhatItMeansForArt

Art and Education are Hard. August 2, 2015. Once again I am slow to share this article that I came across a while ago. I must be distracted by something… too busy doing the hard work of art and education, perhaps. And that’s what this article is all about. This article from Legal Cheek focuses on how hard Art students work relative to Law students in their undergraduate programs, but from an art educator’s perspective, there’s more to see. Check out this chart! Advice to an Arts Supervisor. Notify me of ...

Advice to an Arts Supervisor. August 6, 2015. I met with a friend and colleague for lunch today to chat about his new role as a fine arts supervisor in a nearby school district. I didn’t go in with a specific list of advice to give, but after some reflection, here are a few things I hope he will take away. Moving On Up by Charles Raubacher, art teacher. Collect data at the start… as you would in a classroom. You’re in education, pal! Remember that improving student learning (the work of education) is a p...

Artscape.getting back to Baltimore. Today was the final day of ARTSCAPE 2015. Artscape is an expansive free art festival that brings the city of Baltimore to life! So today, I made it my business to cruise up the beltway to participate in all the fun the festival has to offer! I grabbed some of my wonderful lady friends and of course my camera and we were off! It was a super humid and hot day, but thankfully that did not deter the artists or patrons! There were out of this world art cars, jewelers. The y...

New York City 2015. Each year I take about 50 students to the Big Apple with my partner in crime, the studio art teacher, for an overnight experience rich in art, culture and on-location photo opportunities! This year was no exception, however Mother Nature did throw us a curve ball of about 5 inches of snow that delayed our adventure by one week. The itinerary changes each year along with the individuals who are in my class and what we are learning. This year we toured the Museum of Modern Art,. The col...

LAZY SUSAN: Reflecting on the Practice
http://pseudonym-for-silva.blogspot.com/2015/07/reflecting-on-practice.html
Reflecting on the Practice. Last week I had the opportunity to teach a one week summer camp, aptly titled: Picture This! The camp was open to youth ages 12 to 14 years old. There were 8 participants. I must confess here, I have never in my 20 years of teaching worked at a summer camp, much less designed a sequence for a camp. So, needless to say, I was a little nervous, but ready for the challenge. It was incredible. I put together a sequence of experiences in all things photo! For the Art Educator's sho...

What It Is | You know you're curious…
You know you're curious…. My health care has an excellent perk: a rewards program! The way it works is this: You take a health “survey” once a year, and you get a $30 gift card to Amazon! You earn a certain number of extra points (for logging exercise or healthy eating or getting a pap smear or whatever, or you complete a “program” that requires you to do almost nothing), and you get more gift cards! In 2011, I bought an ice cream attachment. Last year, I put my rewards towards an awesome knife block.

Since then, we've been quickly settling back into a slightly pinker version of normal. So, what does normal look like around here? Well, normal looks like stealing big sister's shoes. Eating - not just one but two - welcome home cakes from Dairy Queen (because Bean's super loved like that). Dressing up. (What girl doesn't need a sparkly cape? Saturday, July 11, 2015.

Something To Make You Think. Friday, March 5, 2010. How Pelosi will game the Stupak 12. I have included below, a wonderful explanation from Marc Thiessen on how reconciliation could be a red herring by Pelosi and Reid. A very informative article:. Republicans intend to raise points of order against the reconciliation package.
