Brilliant title to go here

Brilliant title to go here. All about books since 2007. Have you read David Nicholls's One Day. I raved about it last fall. And so as always I approach the release of a film based on the novel with both suspicion and excitement. Perhaps a titch more excitement given Nicholls penned the script, but then a titch more suspicion when I hear Anne Hathaway's British accent. (Even if hers is better than my attempts to sound like Eliza Doolittle-meets Cher Lloyd-meets a Dickensian-era newspaper boy.). I'm hesita...

Brilliant title to go here: June 2010

http://whatreyoureading.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Brilliant title to go here. All about books since 2007. Catching up on magazine world. You may - just may - be aware that I pretty much idolize Joseph Boyden. Is idolize even the right word? Like, I want to write like him and hang out with him and. yeah, idolize is probably the right word. Anyway, last week in Maclean's he and his wife Amanda Boyden wrote about life on the Gulf Coast in the midst of the oil spill. You can read that story here. In other news, if you haven't read this Rolling Stone. Actual...

Brilliant title to go here: meet Emma and Dexter

Brilliant title to go here. All about books since 2007. Meet Emma and Dexter. Well, I broke my own school-year rule - no fun, fictional books when there are readings to be done - and took One Day. Home on Friday afternoon. Other times, you want to hug her, straight-up. I can't really say enough wonderful things about David Nicholls, and his beautiful suck-you-in-and-spit-you-out writing. It's a funny, funny book - something of a love story, but really more the story of two lives, of perceptions that ...

Brilliant title to go here. All about books since 2007. Where Atwood meets Mad Men. Margaret Atwood's first novel, published in 1969 - and I'm utterly struck by her main character, Marian McAlpin. Specifically, how Marian, in her struggle to be feminine and. Be feminine, to be a career girl and. To be a career girl, is something of a blueprint for Peggy Olson. Meanwhile, the last bit of millennium poetry I'll offer from. Links to this post. Where are you reading in Creston? Links to this post. A coworker...

Brilliant title to go here. All about books since 2007. Last book club today. Before I leave for London, and we discussed Graham Greene's Dr. Fischer of Geneva or The Bomb Party. Greene emphasizes, throughout, that this is a story of human greed. He argues, again and again, that rich people can be greedier than poor. Leaving that book - and I'm warning you now, I will spoil the ending, so stop reading this post if this is a book you want to read - I feel like I forgot to ask why Fischer killed himself?

http://whatreyoureading.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Brilliant title to go here. All about books since 2007. I can't wait for this movie. Or the sequel I really really hope is in the works. Because yes, I technically like Something Blue. Even better than Something Borrowed. Possibly because of the London-based storyline. Also, I promise to be a better blogger once school is done. In the meantime, I've barely been keeping up with day-to-day stuff over here. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A history of navel-gazing. A Bird in the House. Lorri...

124; Comments RSS. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography. You asked (okay, so maybe you didn’t), I answered. 1 Why do you fall over imaginary things on the sidewalk? I’d like to think it’s because I’m 5’11. I’m gravitationally challenged. And I have really damn small feet (size 6). Needless to say, my sense of balance is developing. I’m the gal on the subway that always falls over at the slightest hint of a stop. I trip over mythical things (like unicorns? 2 Where have you lived? I later moved to ...

124; Comments RSS. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography. Posted on December 6, 2010. By The Nomadic Reporter. In Iceland. It’s cold. And lovely. And I am literally running out the door, late, late, on my way to a big day filled with geothermal power plants, geysers, waterfalls. And the reason I’m leaving you people without a full post? Three things I have noticed about Iceland. 2 I have never had smoked salmon that tasted like this. It makes me quiver. Tagged: | blogging. Laquo; Me no fix blog can.

Murder 1

Because no one is innocent. Wednesday, October 03, 2007. An Army of One. I think it was either John Steinbeck or Maya Angelou who once said, "To survive a war, you have to become a war." Well, that's what I had to become. A war. A god damned war. I loved you in Blue." I said. Yelled the Caruso lookalike, as he slapped me across the face. Well I was in a bit of a tight spot- trapped in a remote, heavily guarded federal compound in America's Pacific Northwest- strapped into some torture chair, waiting for ...
