Butterfly Conservation – What's Wild in Cornwall
http://whatswildincornwall.com/tag/butterfly-conservation
What's Wild in Cornwall. Wildlife things to do, see and think about in Cornwall. Back to blogging…. Well, it’s near the beginning of 2016 and I haven’t written a blog post for a while, which gives you a big clue about my New Year’s resolution. Yes, it was to get back to blogging regularly about Cornwall’s wildlife and the places I’ve been as I continue to explore this wonderful end of Britain. Looking towards Goonhilly and Tregonning Hill. Kiefferia pericarpiicola gall on wild carrot. Lesser Celandine li...

What's Wild in Cornwall. Wildlife things to do, see and think about in Cornwall. A year of colour. When I look back on my 2014 in Cornwall, what I see is colour. Poppy reds, heathery purples, bumblebee rusty oranges and sea-green waters. Here are some photos to illustrate my point. The glorious Poppy fields at West Pentire. Ling, Bell-heather and Gorse in waves of colour across Gwennap Head. Bluebells in Crowhill Valley Woods. Carpets of Round-leaved Sundew at Newlyn Downs. December 22, 2014. Buttercup-c...

What's Wild in Cornwall. Wildlife things to do, see and think about in Cornwall. Why is biological recording important? The Marsh Fritillary, a protected butterfly species in the UK (photo: Amanda Scott). I am one of the kinds of people that I get really annoyed by. Well, that’s what I used to think. But I am now a convert to recording and to sharing my sightings. Here’s why. NB the ‘I’ is rhetorical here – I may be not very good at recording, but I’m not that bad! Here are a few links:. Butterfly record...

What's Wild in Cornwall. Wildlife things to do, see and think about in Cornwall. A walk down the lane. You don’t always have to wander very far in order to find joy in beautiful things. Place your feet outside your front door and simply walk, and who knows what you’ll discover? Aluminium Archangel – note the variegated leaves meaning this is not our native Yellow Archangel. Next time I spot Yellow Archangel, I hope it’s our British species. In the meantime, here’s a combative Speckled Woo...April 22, 2015.

What's Wild in Cornwall. Wildlife things to do, see and think about in Cornwall. Category: What’s wild in Cornwall. The lonely ringlet, and other garden tales. Once upon a time, in a wild garden in the heart of Cornwall, there lived a ringlet. A very sad and lonely ringlet…. Every day, the fairy godmother of the garden would visit the ringlet’s grassy home. She, too, was heartbroken to see his lonely life. The sunny weather turned to rain, as if the lonely ringlet’s mood had even made...Then, one morning...

What Swift Said
Thursday, 20 March 2014. Focus on a good thing. Multitasking is really the ability to switch focus between several things very very quickly. Thinking you can focus fully on several things at once is as delusional as counting to twenty six while reading the alphabet. You can't fully realise and appreciate the beauty of today while thinking about the problems of tomorrow. Happiness is like counting to twenty six while sadness is like the alphabet. The brain is very good at deluding itself.". If the world h...
What's Wild
Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Bison are big. I mean, big news. Since 1782, the United States has called the bald eagle it's national bird. Now, in 2016, the bison has been adopted as the national mammal. Cool Facts About Bison. Today's bison horns are 2 feet.). There are two variants: the wood bison and the plains bison. Bison also...

Sunday, September 11, 2011. You see since I play overseas, I never wanted to buy a new car that I would only get to drive for a few months, leave, and then when I came home, she was already last years model. Plus who wants to pay insurance on a car that you're not even driving? So now I needed to find a new, used, more reliable car. Not the thing I wanted to worry about while my main priority this summer was buying a house. The mind is a powerful thing! Saturday, September 3, 2011. Yowzers. I have al...
