Nepal trip

Monday, August 1, 2011. About four months ago, we were leaving. Anxious, excited, naive, unclear. And a bit worried about what would happen, we boarded our first plane. It was about two months ago that we returned to Vancouver, BC and our trip ended. Surreal isn’t even close to a legitimate description for how our trip felt. To me, it almost felt like time had stood still. All just a dream. Officially, we went to Nepal to do some hiking and climbing. It started as a shocking. Would have a hell of a time.

Nepal trip: 1 1/2 days, 2 people, 3 planes, 4 countries + a car ride to USA = 33 travel hours

http://wheninasia.blogspot.com/2011/05/1-12-days-2-people-3-planes-4-countries.html

Friday, May 27, 2011. 1 1/2 days, 2 people, 3 planes, 4 countries a car ride to USA = 33 travel hours. We arrived at the airport extra early. Kevin's itinerary was the original one and it said our flight was an hour earlier than it really was. This wasn't a big deal. Turned out the riot and protestor filled streets were causing traffic problems. Othertourists had to detour this way and that through Kathmandu to avoid the masses. We were given the usual run around(why am I not surprised? Ok," I said and r...

Nepal trip: March 2011

http://wheninasia.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 29, 2011. In Nepali tradition it is a taboo to start a trip on a tuesday. Very bad luck, in fact. Luckily enough for us, it will be Wednesday in Nepal when our flight takes off. So here we are: The Vancouver International Airport! This place is crack-a-lackin'. I've never been to such a nice airport. We have maple trees, babbling brooks, a huge fishtank with starfish and various gilled inhabitants. It is incredible! Monday, March 28, 2011. Start Your Engines (Kevin). Photobooth 1: Krissy 0.

Nepal trip: Swayambunath

http://wheninasia.blogspot.com/2011/05/swayambunath.html

Sunday, May 22, 2011. The day of the Monkey Temple had arrived! We were excited to see the temple grounds, the view from it's. Hilltop perch, and of course it's monkey inhabitants. We had heard that the monkeys artfully slide down the staircase handrails and have been known to rob guests of their food. Lonely Planet described these creatures as "thuggish hoodlums.". We walked from Thamel to the East entrance. From here, we would ascend the. While on our way back up, we saw what those agile, excessively h...

Nepal trip: Strike One

http://wheninasia.blogspot.com/2011/05/strike-one.html

Monday, May 23, 2011. We'd heard rumors of a strike yesterday but weren't sure what it would all entail. We had been assured there would be less traffic and that shops would be closed, so Krissy and I came up with the plan of walking the 4km to Patan. Normally this route would take us. Through some of the more traffic clogged areas of Kathmandu but with a strike engaged, who could predict what would happen? Free to roam where they pleased. We reached Durbar Square and found it to be very similar to Kathm...

The Misadventures: October 2012

http://themisadventuresofkf.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 25, 2012. Nothing screams commitment like sawing your counter in two. Fast forward to current day. Only seven gallons in town? A store in Burlington had plenty of epoxy and my friend Jason was nice enough to pick it up for me. The counters were completed one month after I started sawing them apart. Tips for epoxying anything:. 1 Plan to use more epoxy than you imagined. I ended up using double the amount. FYI- there is a math equation for this. 5 Ventilation is key. I seriously consider...

The Misadventures: May 2014

http://themisadventuresofkf.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Gravity Hurts aka Time-Out. No, I'm just happy. They're happy tears.". My tears quickly subsided when the apple juice and crackers appeared. Being that I'm writing this, you probably guessed that 1. There were no rocks and 2. I survived. This trend continued with everything from swimming to downhill biking, and with each sport gone came a bit more depression. You know you've done a doozie of a job when your surgeon asks you sympathetically, "What have you done to yourself? Sitting ...

The Misadventures: August 2012

http://themisadventuresofkf.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 21, 2012. The course was longer this year due to an attempt at making the Forest Service happier than it was after last year. Now, instead of 7 miles of uphill single track right off the start, we had just over 10 miles of first road, then trail. It literally went up and up and up a road, then a trail in the woods, then a huge alpine meadow, then Sawtooth Ridge. Friday, August 3, 2012. 8220;Leaving at 4:30.” I thought the time would deter any possible tag alongs. I had to think about this...

The Misadventures: The Bavarian Alps. Part 2 - Sept 2014

http://themisadventuresofkf.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-bavarian-alps-part-2-sept-2014.html

Wednesday, October 29, 2014. The Bavarian Alps. Part 2 - Sept 2014. We woke up to Cümmel asking us if we wanted to climb a mountain. He said it would be very fun, mellow, safe. We agreed. We arrived at the base of Tegelberg, and instantly stopped by the playground. I don't understand why US playgrounds are so PG rated. The ones in Europe are fun for adults. Seriously. As it goes, the climbing wasn't bad at all. If you imagine exposed 4th class with super polished rock, but add in a fixed cable, then ...

The Misadventures: August 2013

http://themisadventuresofkf.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 12, 2013. The sky above our camp was speckled with stars when I slid into my sleeping bag at 1:30 AM. When I awoke at 2:30, however, the sky was dark and no stars remained. Lightening was now striking closer from both aspects. Disconcerting, yes, but nothing to freak out about. Sometimes you just to listen to Mother Nature. After a long day of sleep I started to wonder about this occurrence, so I did a little research to see if we did the right thing. Here is what I've found:. Contrary to ...

Monday, July 8, 2013. Black Peak. NE Ridge. July 2, 2013. Today was a pretty awesome day. First peak summit of the summer. I woke up at 4:15 am. Allie and I planned on leaving Bellingham at 530, and this would give me enough time to make a proper breakfast and get to her house. Being that I didn't get to bed until 11:30, I was surprisingly alert for the predawn awakening. What is it," Allie asked? I pointed towards the south. She gazed at Black Peak, "I know, it'll be so fun! Not the peak, the goat!

The Misadventures: The Bavarian Alps. Part 1 - September 2014

http://themisadventuresofkf.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-bavarian-alps-part-1-september-2014.html

Wednesday, October 22, 2014. The Bavarian Alps. Part 1 - September 2014. I'll cut to the chase and just say that life presented an opportunity to travel to Europe, and the location of choice was southern Germany, more specifically the Bavarian Alps. Fussen and the fashionable Cummel. Standing on Cummel's terrace, Jason and I both pointed towards the mountains. We wanted to climb something, and there were a few obvious peaks visible from Cummel's house. No Schnapps. Tomorrow we climb! During our time on t...

When in Albion

Getting lost in the UK is easy. That's why we go there. Then we have to find our way back home. But if home is were the heart is, is mine still in France? To read is to empower. It deals with Books are love. En France on a David Guetta comme DJ.

when in asia… – Greetings (and eatings) from across the IDL

When in asia…. Greetings (and eatings) from across the IDL. When visiting a different giant city every three days, you naturally begin to take for granted the scale of such cities. While they each still have a unique vibe and aesthetic, the novelty of simply being in a city whose population is measured in millions eventually fades. The massive building on the left is but a sliver of the Shinjuku station. One of the most striking aspects of Tokyo is how visually different each of the main city centers are...
