on the move: bienvenue a paris

http://www.whereintheworldblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/bienvenue-paris.html

And the world's my oyster). June 20, 2008. I read all the comments on here, and love them. It's interesting that the last post was the first one where I got something from someone who I don't know - or don't know that I know - and the person is being snarky. What's the point, random reader? I go to London tomorrow, and it will be interesting to see. I have even less on the agenda for there, and have been more recently, so we will see where it falls on the travel scale this time. June 20, 2008 at 7:07 PM.

on the move: homefront

http://www.whereintheworldblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/homefront.html

And the world's my oyster). June 25, 2008. But now I'm home! It's awesome. Last night when I went to bed, it was like one of those scenes in a rags-to-riches movie where I flail around on the luxurious bed. It was spectacular, all those pillows, all that space, the snuggly down comforter and the fact that there was no one else in the room. So very swank. June 30, 2008 at 9:24 AM. on the move: socialism fiesta

http://www.whereintheworldblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/socialism-fiesta.html

And the world's my oyster). June 13, 2008. Yes it is always nice to have the government treat us like children and plan our lives from cradle to grave. We are not trusted enough to make our decisions and all they ask of us is 50% of our income in taxes to give to others who are not responsible enough to make their own decisions. It is GREAT! October 19, 2009 at 8:28 PM. Soon America will be just as lucky as we are! The last great chance for freedom. October 19, 2009 at 8:29 PM. View my complete profile.

on the move: wonderful copenhagen

http://www.whereintheworldblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/wonderful-copenhagen.html

And the world's my oyster). June 06, 2008. Is there some sort of recent baby boom in Denmark? The sheer number of cyclists is really rivaled only by the number of little under-twos riding around in their little buggies. Seriously, so many wheels to dodge as a pedestrian. I went to the botanic gardens today, and then did my one-two of culture with the National Gallery and the National Museum (or Nationalmuseet. Hee! I love Danish.) The latter was really cool - everything from Viking displays (of course...

on the move: diet coke: ireland

http://www.whereintheworldblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/diet-coke-ireland.html

And the world's my oyster). June 04, 2008. I can't believe i forgot to post this before now! Ok, so the tragic has happened, that i honestly don't know if i remember what the real diet coke tastes like anymore, if i remember the nuances of that liquid joy, to be able to describe why, precisely, this isn't it. but it's not, quite. Well, first, good on ireland for ousting the 'coca cola light' crap, because if greece taught us anything, it's that light =/= diet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

sewing to distraction: October 2013

http://sewingtodistraction.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

I started with academic regalia, but I have since expanded into other areas. Sunday, October 20, 2013. Ada Lovelace: Finished Product. I finished this project back in late July, but right afterwards life geared back up again for school. This afternoon I find myself with some free time, so here are the last of the construction photos and some of the finished product. Bonnie Figured out that we needed support for the side rolls. Hair wrapped around the rolls. Finished with comb, veil, and flowers. I won be...

sewing to distraction: Laughing Moon Silverado Corset #1

http://sewingtodistraction.blogspot.com/2012/07/laughing-moon-silverado-corset-1.html

I started with academic regalia, but I have since expanded into other areas. Sunday, July 15, 2012. Laughing Moon Silverado Corset #1. Whelp this corset ain't gonna build itself. Several years ago, I started a muslin for Laughing Moon's Silverado Corset Pattern. Although I did not cut a size 8, I ordered the size 8 kit to get the shortest possible bones and busk. I "borrowed" the following images from Farthingtales.ca because it shows the difference between the two corsets offered in this pattern:. Being...

sewing to distraction: Steampunk Alice in Wonderland

http://sewingtodistraction.blogspot.com/2013/05/steampunk-alice-in-wonderland.html

I started with academic regalia, but I have since expanded into other areas. Monday, May 27, 2013. Steampunk Alice in Wonderland. This was the first time I really put together a costume as a recognizable character. A friend of mine wanted to do Steampunk Ariel as an excuse to make a swimming costume, so I said I'd play along. I made the Laughing Moon drawers. I used the Simplicity Chemise pattern. I used the corset I made from the Laughing Moon Silverado pattern. Here's photos of the hoop skirt and apron:.

Inspired by Lauren over at American-Duchess.com. I decided to attempt a more comfortable corset. I selected Ageless Patterns #1036. Muslin #1: back view. Pressure points and other problems. http://sewingtodistraction.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

I started with academic regalia, but I have since expanded into other areas. Friday, May 31, 2013. Looking forward, I'm thinking about three things:. 1) Yet Another Corset. I'd like to continue the hunt for a supportive, slightly waist reducing, and comfortable corset. I get closer every time, but I'm not there yet. I have this pattern for a fantastic tea gown. 3) Ada Lovelace Costume. As a female computer scientist and seamstress, I'm not sure that I can avoid making this costume for much longer. Images...

I started with academic regalia, but I have since expanded into other areas. Friday, July 27, 2012. Laughing Moon Silverado Corset #8 FINISHED! So here it is, all flossed and looking pretty. Here are some close ups of the flossing details. This was my first attempt, and I have to admit that I was inspired by these images. From demeasuringtape's livejournal page. Bottom edge flossing design. Close up of the front, where several bones meet close together. Top of the half length bones that run up the hip.

I started with academic regalia, but I have since expanded into other areas. Friday, July 19, 2013. Tacking down the bodice pleats with running stitches. Being careful not to let the stitches show on the organza. My super talented friend, Bonnie, styling my wig for me. So good! This is stunning, I cant wait to see the finished dress. The fabric is lovely, and just perfect for the portrait. July 30, 2013 at 5:21 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Corded Petticoat (Historical Sew Fortnightly Chall.

Where in the WORLD are the Wyatts? Thursday, October 4, 2012. Random observations part 2. Well, there are a couple more things which puzzle this German living in beautiful Down Under to the extreme. And then at the cash desks they don't seem to have an option of typing "12 x" and scan the item once, no they go blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb, blibb until all of my lovely tins are scanned and packed in your reusable textile bag. Where in the world are we going?

Wednesday, May 13, 2009. It's bigger than libraries. Posted by Marilyn Jenkins. Monday, May 11, 2009. Back in December Thomas Frey and Michael Stephens challenged us to have big dreams about the future and make them our reality. So what are your biggest dreams about public library service "in the future"? Can we actually "live" in that kind of space even in a virtual sense? What would happen if we tried? From the USA to the UAE (and a stop in Peking)

From the USA to the UAE (and a stop in Peking). Friday, May 31, 2013. Many people ask us about church here. Can we go? The first weekend we were here we started attending church regularly. I'm Catholic and my hubs is Protestant. We tend to lean towards Catholic services. It's a basic "standard" mass every where you go. Until you live in China. Or Dubai. Definitely not "standard" mass type behavior. This is totally awesome, right? 2000 people. We were the only white ones there. Honestly. If yo...Mostly In...
