Where's Janelle?

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Better late than never, huh? I don’t even know where to begin, dear reader, it’s been so long! This is entirely my fault, as I let the winds of change sweep me away this past summer without taking the proper time to reflect back on the entirety of my Peace Corps service. And Brad, one of my best buddies in the latter half of my service. I even got the chance to see Brad one last time before he's off to Hawaii - pai mwahu. I got to s...

Where's Janelle?: In a rain cloud

http://www.wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013/04/in-rain-cloud.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Monday, April 8, 2013. In a rain cloud. Just wanted to share with you, dear reader, two events that happened to me this past Saturday. I know – it’s crazy how much I’ve been updating. With five weeks left in Pohnpei I need to make the most of my remaining time here. Though I’m not going to miss pigs entering my shower! I met President Emanuel Mori of the Federated States of Micronesia. Location: Kolonia, Pohnpei, Micronesia. April 8, 2013 at 4:37 PM. Really,...

Where's Janelle?: January 2012

http://www.wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Thursday, January 19, 2012. Ticket Lady #1: Where is she going? Ticket Lady #2: First Newark, then Honolulu, then…somewhere…. It’s humbling to know that you can spend two amazing years working and living in a country that the average American doesn’t even know exists. Does this make me sad? Well, yes. Does this make me more determined than ever to bring back and share my experiences with anyone willing to listen? Is the title, Deleur. I am mehn Pohnpei.

Where's Janelle?: Underneath a waterfall

http://www.wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/2013/04/underneath-waterfall.html

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Monday, April 22, 2013. It’s a tiny one, but still! I have been packing a lot into my last few weeks here in Pohnpei. School-wise, my computer class is learning how to navigate Microsoft Word (when there is cash power). I also had the guts to speak in Pohnpeian at my final PTA meeting, which turned out pretty well. In the library, students from all levels have been captivated by…American pop culture magazines. Thank you Pennoyer Elementary School 8. I am als...

A blog about my adventures, wherever I may be. Friday, March 23, 2012. 8220;What’s your future goal? 8220;Well, I want to become a lawyer (doctor, teacher, stewardess, engineer, captain, electrician, fashion designer, military man, farmer).”. 8220;Do you know how to do that? 8220;Teacher, I don’t know! 8220;Here’s what you can do…”. Those were the days, huh? I wanted to encourage them that their dreams are very much possible, as long as they work hard to achieve them and never give up. In my algebra clas...

Nick in Micronesia: December 2013

http://nickinmicronesia.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 31, 2013. 2013 in Review - aka My First and Last Attempt at a Videoblog. Note to self: It's awkward talking to a camera when you're by yourself. Here are some pictures of my most recent project: making coconut oil. Also I threw in a picture of a newphew of mine playing Nerf basketball with me, a countdown to the Microgames, and a bonus picture of Boulder. Good times. Friday, December 20, 2013. Nick in Micronesia: June 2014

http://nickinmicronesia.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 30, 2014. Sort of. I can feel the start of worrying about my trip back home. It's like a crying baby at the back of an airplane when I'm sitting at the front. I can't faintly hear its annoyance, but I'm able to put on my headphones and rock through the flight. Soon enough though, that baby is going to be screaming and sitting in the seat right next to me. It's only eventual, but for now I'm basking in the ignorant bliss of not thinking about July 30th. How am I basking? I'm also trying to cr...

Nick in Micronesia: 30 Days Has September, April, June, and November

http://nickinmicronesia.blogspot.com/2014/06/30-days-has-september-april-june-and.html

Friday, June 20, 2014. 30 Days Has September, April, June, and November. I keep having to sing that song to myself. It reminds me, as it did in school, that June and many other months are too weak to have thirty-one days. It reminds me that somewhere after June there's that dirty month of July, creeping and hiding behind. In a way, the song reminds me of this: use your time wisely Nick. I found myself utterly surprised by two things yesterday. Yea That's basically how my Peace Corps service has gone....

Nick in Micronesia: October 2013

http://nickinmicronesia.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 18, 2013. Time Is Not On My Side. Bum Bim. Bum. Bim. 17:54.06 hours. I'm on red what? Bum Bim. Bum. Bim. 17:58.33 hours. Yep, that's me. Bum Bim. Bum. Bim. 19:33.22 hours. Then I got the craziest idea in my head after the race. Could I, an extremely WASPy WASP (minus the Protestant), do more with running. Could I, an average runner back in the U.S., be a part of the Micronesian Olympics in July 2014? Will the Olympic torch be a coconut husk on fire? My students hard at work. Subscribe to:...

Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Sweat A Sting Ray. The Final Stretch. Holy (insert your religious person's name here)! How about I blow your mind (By really blowing your mind! I bet you've never been triple parenthesisied before, have you? In all, the next 5 months I hope will be nothing but amazing. School is going great. Secondary projects like coaching are hopping. Job hunting is just about to commence. Sweat to be sweated. It's the Final Stretch. Cue the Final Countdown Song. Wo hai ni men. Http:/ wheresja...

Nick in Micronesia: 90 Days and Airbags

http://nickinmicronesia.blogspot.com/2014/05/90-days-and-airbags.html

Friday, May 2, 2014. 90 Days and Airbags. I always thought starting something would be the hardest part. Finishing should easy, right? Well Peace Corps must be like trying to stop a moving bike going 100 miles per hour down a hill. I'm starting to send the signal to my hands to slam on the brakes, but I somewhat feel it might be better to fly over the handle bars and back broken, a new man, into the non-Peace Corps life. 5 Slowly deploying for employment - China is a freshly plucked chicken waiting to be...

Nick in Micronesia: NickH1 Best Week Ever

http://nickinmicronesia.blogspot.com/2014/07/nickh1-best-week-ever.html

Monday, July 28, 2014. NickH1 Best Week Ever. This will be my last post on Pohnpei. When you say finalizing things like that, it hits you hard. Real hard. So there's that. I'm leaving. Blah. But last week has been amazing. By amazing, I mean golden. By golden, I mean seven golds. 7. SEVEN! But not only that. Call within the next five minutes, and you'll receive three silvers. 3. THAT'S RIGHT! I have had the adventure of a lifetime here on Pohnpei, and nothing can change that. Am I glad I did Peace Corps?

A blog about my adventures in Seoul, South Korea and in finding a job. Wednesday, September 1, 2010. This will be my last post in Santos in Seoul because I have created a new blog aptly named Where's Janelle? To chronicle my adventures in the Peace Corps and beyond. Please go here now for all the latest news - http:/ wheresjanelle.blogspot.com/. Thank you to all those who have supported my first blogging experience by reading and/or commenting! Nick in Micronesia: September 2013

http://nickinmicronesia.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 21, 2013. A sidewalk on Param Island. Probably the most difficult one I've ever had the privilege of walking on. I let a little deaf/mute girl play with my camera for a while. We had a good time. Some people might even call this paradise. Apparently Micronesian women wear head scarves just like Muslim women. Our new Peace Corps Volunteers! The patrol boat that I graced to go fishing with the President of the FSM. Coteacher Dennis looking philosophical. It's Kamwadipw (party) season!

Sunday, May 11, 2014. There is only one thing I love as much as Christmas and thats being able to have mangos at Christmas, and surprising people, and seeing my family. Un trozo de mi mundo donde me desahogo, escribo, creo y me encuentro a mí mismo. A part of my world where I can let stress go, write, create and find myself. Une part de mon monde où je respire, j'écris, je crois, et je me rencontre à moi-même. 2/11/2012 08:38:00 a. m.

Sunday, March 1, 2015. Side Trip: Majestic Abu Dhabi (Grand Mosque, Ferrari World). An hour’s drive from Dubai is ABU DHABI. And I highly recommend that you make time to visit this beautiful city. Abu Dhabi is to Dubai as Elizabeth Wakefield is to Jessica. They’re both equally spectacular and impressive, but the former has a more modest, mature vibe. According to Maboo, our very entertaining Pakistani driver, Abu Dhabi is more laid back and au naturel,. Our first stop was the GRAND MOSQUE. One of the pla...
