Getting Along in God's Country: April 2009
http://devonhaynie.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Getting Along in God's Country. Wednesday, April 15, 2009. Rough night, rougher morning, sad day. The Haynie B&B/Writing Retreat lost a much-loved housemate today. The owners aren't doing so well; the journalist tenant is touch and go. The house is eerily quiet tonight. Everyone's alone with their memories. I'm picturing her beside my bed, looking up at me with the same doe-like face she had since she was a puppy. We got quite close these last few months; we liked having each other around. Larry told me ...

Getting Along in God's Country. Thursday, October 22, 2009. I guess I'm not a true Hoosier. An email forward I received today:. THE RULES OF RURAL INDIANA ARE AS FOLLOWS:. Listen up City Slickers! 1 Pull your droopy pants up. You look like an idiot. 2 Turn your cap right, your head isn't crooked. 3 Let's get this straight; it's called a 'dirt road.' I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way. 11 No, there'...

Getting Along in God's Country: December 2008
http://devonhaynie.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Getting Along in God's Country. Wednesday, December 24, 2008. There's not much walking, or driving for that matter, in this winter wonderland. Two Homes for the Holidays. I've spent the last few days berating myself for failing to complete my mid-20’s magnum opus by my self-imposed deadline. What should be a fast-moving tale of serendipity, violence and identity struggle is coming along, but at a dial-up modem’s pace. Maybe I’ve spent too much time there. But I find solace in my east coast retr...Ah, the...

Getting Along in God's Country: October 2008
http://devonhaynie.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Getting Along in God's Country. Thursday, October 30, 2008. Haynie B&B closed this weekend. Bad news for those of you eager to spend this holiday weekend in one of northern Indiana's most sought after guest homes. Starting Friday, the Haynie B&B will close its doors for the weekend. Our sole guest is leaving to celebrate Halloween in Indianapolis, so no one will be here to check guests in, arrange Amish Acres tours, etc. About South African politics, attitudes toward the press, and man-eating hippos.

Getting Along in God's Country: January 2012
http://devonhaynie.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Getting Along in God's Country. Saturday, January 7, 2012. Another day, another wrinkle. My latest wrinkle arrived on Friday. I first noticed it a few days earlier, under a patch of dry skin, but hoped in vain that I was being duped by low-quality bathroom light. To remember what I looked like pre-wrinkle invasion, I’ve started taking more pictures of my countenance than most people do of their firstborns. Right side profile, left side profile, chin up, chin down. I have it covered. (Wh...There is enough...

Getting Along in God's Country. Monday, October 19, 2009. At first I thought they were kidding. Last week, I accompanied my parents to a nearby farmer's market. Sole purpose: to have a puppy pumpkin photo shoot. More photos to come. I love your new siblings. Hi Mrs. Haynie! October 23, 2009 at 3:46 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Getting Along in God's Country: June 2009
http://devonhaynie.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Getting Along in God's Country. Monday, June 8, 2009. What would mi maestra think? Tonight she'll be thinking, "Donde esta Devon? Because I'm skipping my Spanish class in favor of a much-needed beer. Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Weddings, Christians, Gigantic Turtles. Please forgive me for letting everyone look at a picture of a dead dog for over a month. Not cool. I can't believe I did that, especially considering other interesting, blog-worthy developments in God's Country. In other good news: The Haynie B&B...

Getting Along in God's Country: February 2012
http://devonhaynie.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Getting Along in God's Country. Sunday, February 12, 2012. Sad moment in the airport. I sat in a quiet, isolated corner of the Atlanta airport earlier in the month, facing a large window with a view of Delta planes bathed in the late afternoon light. As I read my magazine, employees from all over the terminal started gathering around me. When their chitchat grew louder, I blocked them out by focusing harder on each sentence on the page. At first I read the newspapers to follow the wars- to really live in...
