In recent weeks I've been giving serious thought to whether or not to establish Setaria pastures in order to improve productivity, particularly carrying capacity through the Winter months. This thinking was triggered by advice from the local agronomist, Terry Launders, that Setaria has this potential and tolerates the high Aluminium that is characteristic of the poorer land in the Manning Valley area including the land at Whine Not.

The right eye can clearly be seen to be suffering from the effects of Chlamydia. Notwithstanding the sad fact that the animal was diseased, I enjoyed the visit enormously. I believe that "global warming" is real and that it presents an enormous challenge to global agriculture in general and to the beef industry in particular. Consequently it is my intention to breed the kind of cattle that can continue to thrive in increasingly hot and parasitic conditions whilst maintaining standards of excellence in eating quality and productivity. For now, that means that I intend to build up a herd of Brangus.
