Whirling in Mali

Talk story mali style. Sunday, August 10, 2008. I was reading through the journal I’ve kept (not very periodically) to record my experience in Mali. I came to my first entry and wanted to share it here. It seems to speak for how I am feeling in the midst of my last week. There is a map of Mali painted on the front wall of the hanger. Green, yellow and red the color. Two years later… I think I’m okay. All dogs go to heaven.even a Malian one like Boo. Sunday, July 13, 2008. I did not know what I thought th...

Whirling in Mali: March 2008

http://www.whirlinginmali.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Talk story mali style. Monday, March 24, 2008. Gift giving—a love language my good friend Jess told me way back during our collage days. She said that people are accustomed to receiving and giving love in different ways—each person having their own type of love language: gift giving, quality time, acts of service, words of encouragement, physical touch. I think I am finding out that Mali’s love language is acts of service. What do I mean by that? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

a charlatanical memoir: Apartment pictures!

http://maliorbust.blogspot.com/2007/12/apartment-pictures.html

This is Michele and my new apartment in NW DC:. The kitchen isn't a separate room, it actually makes up the back of the living room (I love that). And its a pretty sweet kitchen too. Granite counters, stained concrete floors. We haven't hung anything on the walls yet, but we've got some awesome stuff from Africa to hang up, plus we plan on printing and framing some of our photos from Mali. Our window out onto the world of Giant the supermarket with our dinky yet lovable Christmas tree. Our Map of Mali.

a charlatanical memoir: Snow Day DC

http://maliorbust.blogspot.com/2007/12/snow-day-dc.html

Ok, to start out with, I am a very bad person for not updating more frequently. I deserve your harsh words - especially those of you who might still read this living in Africa - that is, if any of you even bother anymore. Interesting tidbit of the day: false-consensus effect:. This explains why madmen like Bill O'Reilly believe in their 'War on Christmas'. Written by Outlaw Torn. On Wednesday, December 05, 2007. Ahh snowtime in DC.how I love thee. Miss you and talk to you soon! 2:31 AM, January 02, 2008.

Margo: Oh man!

http://mhworth.blogspot.com/2007/11/oh-man.html

Friday, November 16, 2007. Well- Banos was pretty amazing. I posted pictures. The pictures start in Quito when we went out for Andrew's birthday- it was insane. as you will see- but there was good dancing and it was FUN! Then we went out to celebrate that we were done with TESOL (teaching english as a second language). That may have been the most fun I've ever had in my life! I even jumped off a bridge! In the picture I'm with my roommates Rozana and Angie who dressed up as the Doublemint Twins! Finally-...

Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Oh my goodness gracious-. Oh for the love of Pete and his mother! Okay Pablo- even if you did miss class last week to go to a soccer game and so you didn't know we had homework what should you have done? What should you have done? Do you think you should have asked me "Hey Profe- what did I miss last week? Or do you think you should have come to class, goofed around, and given Juan a purple nurple until he punched you- RUBEN DO NOT TOUCH JUAN'S NIPPLE! It's definitely a drag.

http://mhworth.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 26, 2007. Sometimes it takes me a little longer. Plus, the students are SO sweet. It's a sports high school, so the students wear Track Suits as their uniforms and the They call me "Teacher Margaret", "Teacher", or "Profe"- short for "Profesora". Everywhere I go, the students greet me. Even at lunch they greet us: "Buen provecho, profe." (Buen provecho = bon appetite! It's super polite here to say that whenever anyone's eating ever) I LOVE IT! Tuesday, October 16, 2007. So this week I had...

Margo: Thanksgiving Saturday!

http://mhworth.blogspot.com/2007/11/thanksgiving-saturday.html

Sunday, November 25, 2007. Well, it's been a tough week to be honest. It's been really hard to be away from home over Thanksgiving. It was great that Aunt Mary and Uncle Dan called me on Thursday, and I got to talk to Mom, Dad, Les and Grandma. of course, I had to talk to them all after I got off of work! They eventually decided that anyone who was 18 could drink. which meant that a LOT of people who weren't 18 were drinking at the dance, but no one seemed to care! Teachers, parents and students danced t...

http://mhworth.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 12, 2008. Well, when it comes down to it I am freaking out. I haven't updated since April 26th and it is now July 12 (okay. it's 12:38 am, which means that it's just July 11 plus 38 minutes. but that's more of a technicality). A LOT has happened! And birds- not too many insects. and one giant tarantula! It was amazing- you travel 2 hours in a motorized canoe and then another 2 hours in a paddle canoe (the guides do all the canoeing! AND- (the only place you can do this, btw, is on the equa...

Sunday, September 30, 2007. To see the whole photo album, go here: http:/ gwu.facebook.com/album.php? This weekend was unbelievable! In the picture, Seth, Rachel and I forced smiles as we drove over potholes and piles of rocks in the back of a pickuptruck). This isn't the big bad daddy jungle- but it was a rainforest nonetheless. We did a zip-line course through over the canopy. It was absolutely amazing. We finally got back into Mindo and it was amazing! Anyway- it was a great weekend. This morning w...

http://mhworth.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 15, 2007. So- it's been a long time since my last update- it's just that so much has happened here that I've wanted to take the time to adequately express it all. well. that's not going to happen, but I'll give you the overview. First of all- December 6 was a holiday for Las Fiestas de Quito- the day where the whole city gets off work and parties just because they're Quitenos! Here it was hardly cause for concern! And then respond "QUE VIVA! Or sometimes- "QUE CHUPE QUITO! And honestly...

Whirling Kalapas are a rich addition to India’s current indie explosion, especially for audiences looking beyond the volume-driven sounds of rock and electronic acts. This is cerebral and fun music for the thinking listener who loves to dance. Sometimes it feels like the world has gone into a tailspin. Everyone rushing to places they never get.

It's my first time reading anything by her, and I'm very much enjoying it. It also strikes me, in reflecting on other relationships in my life, that they don't meet the standard bell hooks proposes. I think it takes a big, whole self to be able to extend oneself in the way that hooks and Peck call for, and so many of us are too wounded to do it. Public service anno...

What is a 3D printer good for? July 6, 2015. July 6, 2015. What is a 3D printer good for? I assume this is a question most 3D printer owners get asked repeatedly and I’ve never been quite sure how to respond. Somehow the media has convinced many people that 3D printers are only useful for making guns and useless plastic trinkets. Here’s what’s in the picture and why I made it:.
